Tooth decay and its prevention in younger school age children

Abstract:

Cíl práce: Hlavním cílem diplomové práce je zjistit, jaké faktory se podílejí na orálním zdraví dětí a zda tyto faktory mají vliv na vznik zubního kazu u dětí. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 200 dětí ve věku 7 - 12 let. Výzkumné šetření probíhalo v období listopad až prosinec 2018 ve stomatologické ambulanci v Brně. Byl použit standardizovaný dotazník Oral Health Questionnaire for Children, jehož autorem je WHO. Dotazník je převzatý ze studie Oral Health Surveys a standardizovaný dotazník PedsQl Oral Health Scale. Výsledky: Šetřením u vybraného souboru jsme zjistili, že frekvence návštěv stomatologa nemá vliv na vznik zubního kazu u dětí. V případě frekvence čištění zubů, dle věku dětí jsme zjistili, že věk dítěte neovlivňuje frekvenci čištění zubů. Z hlediska výživy, jsme zjistili, že konzumace sladkých nápojů a sladkostí má vliv na vznik zubního kazu u dětí. V případě bolesti v dutině ústní jsme zjistili, že zubní kaz nemá vliv na vznik bolesti v dutině ústní. V případě pohlaví u vybraného souboru jsme zjistili, že není rozdíl ve frekvenci čištění zubů u chlapců a dívek. V rámci zjišťování kvality orálního zdraví jsme zjistili, že orálního zdraví má v jistém věku vliv na kvalitu života u dětí. Závěr: Na základě zjištěných výsledků vyplývá, že nezastupitelnou úlohu v prevenci zubního kazu a onemocnění parodontu má pravidelné a důkladné odstraňování zubního mikrobiálního plaku. Základem prevence vzniku zubního kazu u dětí spočívá v domácí péči o dutinu ústní. Každodenní základní ústní hygiena je založena na čistění chrupu zubním kartáčkem a pastou. Preventivní prohlídky u zubního lékaře jsou základem primárně preventivní péče o orální zdraví. V prevenci zubního kazu prostřednictvím zdravé výživy se klade důraz zejména na snížení množství dodaných cukrů v potravinách a nápojích.

Abstract:

Objective of the thesis: The main aim of the thesis is to find out what factors are involved in the oral health of children and how these factors affect the development of caries in children. Methodology: The research set consisted of 200 children aged 7-12 years. The research was carried out between November and December 2018 in a dental clinic in Brno. The standard questionnaire Oral Health Questionnaire for Children was used by the WHO. The questionnaire is taken from the Oral Health Surveys study. Results: By investigating the selected file, we found that the frequency of dental visits does not affect the development of dental caries. In the case of tooth brushing frequency, according to the age of the children, we found that the child's age does not affect the frequency of brushing. From a nutritional perspective, we have found that consuming sweet drinks and sweets affects the formation of dental caries in children. In the case of pain in the oral cavity, we have found that dental caries are not related to the development of oral pain. In the case of the sex of the selected group, we found that there is no difference in the frequency of tooth brushing for boys and girls. As part of our oral health research, we found that oral health affects the quality of life in children at some age. Conclusion: Based on the results, regular and thorough removal of dental microbial plaque plays an irreplaceable role in the prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease. The basis for the prevention of dental caries in children lies in home care for the oral cavity. Everyday basic oral hygiene is based on tooth brushing and toothpaste cleaning. Preventive examinations at the dentist are the basis of primary preventive care for oral health. In the prevention of caries by means of a healthy diet, particular emphasis is placed on reducing the amount of sugars delivered in food and beverages.
