Energetic metabolism of local food systems: case study of the Organic farm Pospíšilovi, Holubí Zhoř, Czech Republic.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá místními potravinovými systémy jako jedním z možných přístupů udržitelného zemědělství a zároveň ekonomické lokalizace. Na začátku jsou rozebrány industrializované a ekologické zemědělství z hlediska historie a energetické náročnosti na obnovitelnou a fosilní energii. Dále jsou analyzovány environmentální aspekty lokalizace a místní potravinové systémy. Cílem výzkumné časti práce je empiricky ověřit předpoklady energetické náročnosti místního potravinového systému. Použitou výzkumnou metodou je koncept sociálního metabolismu, konkrétně energetického metabolismu. První fázi výzkumu je zmapovat zkoumaný systém z hlediska jeho složek, vstupů a výstupů. Dále jsou počítány energetické vstupy v podobě lidské práce, pohonných hmot a elektřiny a výstupy v podobě vyprodukované zeleniny.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on local food systems as one of the approaches of sustainable agriculture and also economic localization. In the beginning, the industrialized and organic agriculture are explicated from the historical point of view and in the frame of requirements on renewable and fossil energy. Furthermore, the environmental aspects of the localization and local food systems are analyzed. The goal of the research part of this thesis is an empiric verification of the premises of the local food systems energetic requirements. The social metabolism (specifically the energetic metabolism) concept represents the research method utilized in this thesis. The first research stage involves mapping of the examined system in terms of its components, inputs and outputs. Consequently, the energy inputs are calculated in a form of the human labour, fuel, electricity and the outputs are calculated in a form of the production of vegetables.
