Práce v teoretické části shrnuje proces osvojování si jazyka, a to jak mateřského, tak druhého (cizího) jazyka. Stručně jsou zmíněny teorie osvojování si jazyka a jejich vliv na učební metody jazyků. Práce též nabízí krátký vhled na rozdíly mezi osvojením si jazyka dospělým člověkem a dítětem a zmiňuje společné či podobné vývojové fáze při osvojování si jazyka mateřského a cizího.
