In this thesis we study matrices and their application in statistics. In the first chapter is the reader familiarised with terms such as matrix diagonalization and singular value decomposition. V této diplomové práci se věnujeme maticím a jejich použití ve statistice. V první části je čtenář seznámen s diagonalizací a singulárnim rozkladem matic. Následně je ukázaná aplikace této teorie v metodě hlavních komponent a v praxi na reálných datech.
