Life situation of the gypsies in the town of Banska Bystrica

Abstract:

The focus of this thesis is to answer the question: What is the life situation of the Gypsies in the city of Banská Bystrica according to the Roma people and the social workers?. To be able to answer the main research question I have devided the life situation of the Gypsies into several categories that I use to judge the situation of the Gypsies in the city of Banska Bystrica. Following categories are considered: accommodation, education, financial situation, experience in dealing with institutions, category „establishment“, „time“, life in local environment, upbringing and growth in the local environment, „relationship to the majority of population“ and category of evaluation and resolution of the life situation. The thesis is based on 11 qualitative interviews, out of which 6 interviewees are members of the Gypsies population (3 are from Gypsies settlement in Podlavice and 3 are Gypsies people living integrated amongst the majority of the population in Banska Bystrica) and 5 social workers who work with the Roma minority in the city of Banska Bystrica. In the empirical part I describe the chosen research methodology, data collection technique and the execution of the research. This is followed by the presentation of the results and their interpretation. The answer to the main thesis question completes the thesis.

Abstract:

Táto práca je zameraná na zodpovedanie otázky : Aká je životná situácia Rómov v meste Banská Bystrica, podľa Rómov a sociálnych pracovníkov? Na zodpovedanie tejto hlavnej výskumnej otázky je životná situácia Rómov rozdelená do niekoľkých dimenzií na základe, ktorých posudzujem životnú situáciu Rómov v meste Banská Bystrica. Jedná sa o dimenzie : dimenzia bývanie; dimenzia vzdelávanie; dimenzia finančná situácia; dimenzia skúsenosti s inštitúciami; dimenzia „režim, „doba“; dimenzia život v lokalite; dimenzia výchova a rozvoj v lokalite; dimenzia „vzťah s majoritou“ a dimenzia hodnotenie a riešenie životnej situácie. Práca je založená na 11 kvalitatívnych rozhovoroch. Z toho 6 informátorov z Rómskej populácie (traja informátori s rómskej osady v Podlaviciach a traja informátori žijúci medzi majoritnou spoločnosťou v meste Banská Bystrica) a 5 sociálnych pracovníkov pracujúcich s rómskou menšinou v meste Banská Bystrica. V empirickej časti popisujem zvolenú metodiku výskumu, techniku zberu dát a popisuje priebeh výskumu. Na to nadväzuje prezentácia výsledkov a ich interpretácia. V závere práce je zodpovedaná hlavná výskumná otázka
