Photography in the context of space

Abstract:

Diseratční práce ověřuje v průběhu téměř tří dekád hypotézu, že způsob prezentace ovlivňuje původní význam(y) jednotlivých fotografií a následně ovlivňuje výslednou percepci a interpretaci uměleckého díla. Soustřeďuje se především na umělecká díla v nichž je fotografie primárním mediem. Prostřednictvím uměleckého výzkumu demonstruje různé přístupy a strategie a ověřuje, či komentuje instalaci jako významotvornou složku. Práce zkoumá a ověřuje, že zvolený způsob prezentace je vědomým rozhodnutím umělce, který tuto strategii používá buď jako estetický prvek nebo je pro něj zvolený způsob instalace významotvorný nástroj. Dále zkoumá nové přístupy k práci s fotografickým mediem založené na technologických možnostech media fotografie a ověřuje vliv současných technologických možností na význam výsledného díla. Zvolená forma, či způsob zpracování obrazu, se tak stává nedílnou součástí fotografické instalace, jež je více, či méně, určující pro význam díla.

Abstract:

Over the course of almost three decades, the dissertation tests the hypothesis that the method of presentation influences the original meaning(s) of individual photographs and subsequently affects the resulting perception and interpretation of the artwork. The thesis focuses primarily on works of art in which photography is the primary medium. Through artistic research, it demonstrates different approaches and strategies and verifies or comments on installation as a meaning-making component. The thesis explores and verifies that the chosen mode of presentation is a conscious decision of the artist, who uses this strategy either as an aesthetic element or the chosen visual form is a meaning-making tool for the artist. It also explores new ways of presenting photography based on the technological possibilities of the medium of photography and verifies the influence of current technological possibilities on the meaning of the resulting work. The chosen form or method of image processing thus becomes an integral part of the photographic installation, which is more or less decisive for the meaning of the work.
