The influence of partner support, negative affectivity and the prematurity of the child and previous experience with child-rearing on the maternal self-efficacy in mothers of toddlers

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the topic of maternal self-efficacy in the mothers of toddlers aged 18 to 36 months. The goal was to test the relationship between coparenting support, premature birth of the child, previous experience with childrearing, negative affectivity of the child and the maternal self-efficacy in the age characterized by toddler negativity. Two methods were translated into slovak language, so that they could have been used for this study. The translated questionnaires were Short Form of Self-efficacy for Parenting Tasks Index Toddler Scale and the Negative Affectivity scale from the Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire- Very Short Form. The hypotheses were tested using the correlational analysis and for testing the model, the multiple linear regression was used. No support was found for the hypothesis about the relationship between premature birth of the child and the maternal self-efficacy. Also, the hypothesis about the relationship between previous experience with child-rearing and the maternal self-efficacy wasn't supported. The hypothesis about the relationship between the negative affectivity of the child was confirmed, as was the hypothesis about the relationship between coparenting support and maternal self-efficacy. Variables coparenting support and the negative affectivity of the child were used as predictors in the regression model and both were proven to be significant predictors of the maternal self-efficacy. The higher the negative affectivity of the child is, the lower the maternal self-efficacy. Higher measures of perceived coparenting support predict higher maternal self-efficacy.

Abstract:

Táto práca je zameraná na materské vedomie vlastnej účinnosti u matiek batoliat vo veku 18-36 mesiacov. Cieľom bolo overiť vzťah medzi podporou zo strany partnera, negatívnou afektivitou dieťaťa, predčasným narodením dieťaťa, predošlej skúsenosti s výchovou a materským vedomím vlastnej účinnosti v období batoľacieho vzdoru. Pre účely tejto práce boli preložené dotazníky Short Form of Self-efficacy for Parenting Tasks Index Toddler Scale a škála pre negatívnu afektivitu dotazníku Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire- Very Short Form. Hypotézy o jednotlivých vzťahoch medzi premennými boli testované pomocou korelačnej analýzy a pre testovanie modelu bola urobená viacnásobná lineárna regresia. Hypotézy o vzťahu medzi predčasným narodením dieťaťa a materským vedomím vlastnej účinnosti a medzi predošlou skúsenosťou s výchovou a materským vedomím vlastnej účinnosti sa nepodarilo potvrdiť. Hypotézy o vzťahu medzi negatívnou afektivitou dieťaťa a materským vedomím vlastnej účinnosti a medzi partnerskou podporou a materským vedomím vlastnej účinnosti sa potvrdili. Do regresného modelu boli zahrnuté iba premenné negatívna afektivita a partnerská podpora. Obe premenné sa ukázali byť signifikantným prediktorom materského vedomia vlastnej účinnosti. Vyššia negatívna afektivita dieťaťa predikuje nižšiu mieru vedomia vlastnej účinnosti u matky, vyššia miera partnerskej podpory predikuje vyššie materské vedomie vlastnej účinnosti.
