On radical confrontations of artists with curators as representatives of institutional power

Abstract:

As the subject of bachelor thesis I chose exploring radical confrontations of artists with curators as representatives of institutional power. The main object of the work is to map and analyse the strategies that certain artists used to confront the figure of curator. Based on the study of specific cases of practice, I have mapped these strategies. The teoretical basis of the thesis is George Dickie's institutional analysis. Work also turns to the position of exhibition curator, which is equally important recourse point for study. An analysis of the literature, together with an examination of specific cases will serve as a focus for further study.

Abstract:

Ako tému bakalárskej diplomovej práce som zvolila skúmanie radikálnych konfrontácií umelcov s kurátormi ako predstaviteľmi inštitucionálnej moci. Časovo sa práca sústredí približne na posledné desaťročie. Hlavným cieľom práce je zmapovať a analyzovať stratégie, ktoré sú niektorými umelcami využívané ku konfrontácii postavy kurátora. Na základe štúdia konkrétnych prípadov z praxe som zmapovala tieto stratégie. Teoretickým východiskom práce je inštitucionálna analýza Georga Dickieho. Práca sa obracia aj k pozícii kurátora výstav, ktorá je rovnako dôležitým východiskom pre štúdium. Analýza vybranej literatúry spolu so skúmaním konkrétnych prípadov bude slúžiť ako ťažisko pre ďalšie štúdium.
