Population aging in the regions of the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Demografické stárnutí má vliv na celou společnost, kvůli čemuž se v posledních letech zařadilo mezi jedno z nejdiskutovanějších témat. Cílem této práce je proto vyhodnotit, zda intenzita stárnutí probíhá ve všech regionech České republiky stejně, případně identifikovat regiony, které jsou více či méně důsledky stárnutí ohroženy. První kapitola představuje samotný proces stárnutí a historický kontext populačního vývoje. Stěžejní část je pak věnována věkové struktuře a jejímu měření pomocí daných ukazatelů a indexů. Ve druhé kapitole je analyzován proces stárnutí pomocí indexu stáří, dynamického indexu ekonomického stárnutí a jejich kombinace, dle které jsou určeny typy stárnutí v okresech České republiky. Dále jsou rozebrány jednotlivé aspekty, které se stárnutím souvisí (zejména ukazatele trhu práce, počty domovů pro seniory, lékařů či nemocnic). Pro účely identifikace regionů, které jsou na tom z hlediska stárnutí hůře či lépe, je provedeno několik kroků. Nejprve jsou jednotlivé regiony ohodnoceny známkami podle jejich pořadí v daných ukazatelích. Poté je každému ukazateli dle mého subjektivního úsudku přiřazena váha podle jeho dopadu na ohrožení regionu ve srovnání s ostatními ukazateli. Touto váhou se přepočítají související známky. Regiony s nejvyšší sumou převážených známek jsou identifikovány jako ohrožené stárnutím. Ve třetí kapitole je nastíněn budoucí vývoj počtu obyvatel za pomoci projekce zpracované Českým statistickým úřadem. Z výsledků je možné usuzovat, že mezi nejméně ohrožené regiony náleží území Hlavního města Prahy a prstenec okresů kolem tohoto území, poté se jedná o okresy Jihomoravského kraje a velká města, tj. Olomouc, Plzeň či Ostrava. Zbylá část regionů je důsledky stárnutí naopak ohrožena.

Abstract:

Demographic aging has currently an impact on society as a whole, making it one of the most debated topics in recent years. The aim of this work is therefore to evaluate whether the intensity of aging is the same in all regions of the Czech Republic, and eventually to identify regions that are more or less endangered by the consequences of aging. The first chapter presents the aging process itself and the historical context of population development. The main part is then devoted to the age structure and its measurement by chosen indicators and indices. The second chapter analyses the aging process using the age index, the dynamic index of economic aging and their combination, according to which the types of aging in the districts of the Czech Republic are determined. Furthermore, specific aspects related to aging are analysed (especially labour market indicators, numbers of homes for the elderly, number of doctors or hospitals). Several steps are taken to identify regions that are worse off or better off in terms of aging. First, the individual regions are graded according to their order in the given indicators. Then, each indicator is, according to my subjective opinion, assigned a weight according to its impact on the threat to the region, in comparison to other indicators. This weight is then used to recalculate the related grades. The regions with the highest sum of weighted grades are identified as being at risk of aging. The third chapter of the work outlines the future development of the population with the help of a population projection prepared by the Czech Statistical Office. From the results it can be assumed that the least endangered regions include the territory of the Capital City of Prague and the ring of districts around this territory, then the districts of the South Moravian Region and large cities, ie Olomouc, Pilsen or Ostrava. On the contrary, the rest of the regions are at risk of aging.
