The needs of patients with schizophrenia in home care

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem této diplomové práce bylo popsat a poté analyzovat subjektivně vnímané potřeby pacientů se schizofrenií, kteří žijí v domácím prostředí. Metodika: Vzorek participantů byl tvořený metodou záměrného výběru, kdy devět respondentů splnilo kritéria a souhlasilo se zařazením do výzkumu. Byla zvolena metoda kvalitativního přístupu, konkrétně pak polostrukturovaný rozhovor. Rozhovory byly nahrávány na diktafon a posléze přeneseny doslovnou transkripcí do písemné podoby. Analýza dat byla prováděna pomocí otevřeného tematického kódování a výsledkem byla tematická analýza. Výsledky: Na základě analýzy dat jsme identifikovali čtyři kategorie: biologické potřeby, psychické potřeby, sociální potřeby a spirituální potřeby. Tyto kategorie se dále dělily na 15 podkategorií, které blíže popisují jednotlivé potřeby pacientů a umožňují detailnější odkrytí dat. Závěr: Práce popisuje subjektivně vnímané potřeby pacientů, tím poskytuje bližší náhled do života schizofreniků žijících doma. Všichni respondenti zvládají život v domácím prostředí, je však nutná dopomoc dalších osob. Nicméně pobyt doma vnímají velmi pozitivně i z hlediska léčby. Informace získané od respondentů byly velmi přínosné a obohacující, myslíme si, že tento výzkum přinesl nezvyklý pohled do života psychiatrických pacientů.

Abstract:

Objective: The objective of the thesis was to describe and then analyze subjectively perceived needs of patients with schizophrenia which live in home care. Methodology: The sample of participants was made using the methodology of purposive sampling, where nine respondents fulfilled the criteria and agreed to be included in the research. The method of qualitative approach was chosen, specifically semi-structured interview. Interviews were recorded on a dictaphone and then transferred using the literal transcription to written form. Data analysis was conducted using open thematic coding and the result was thematic analysis. Results: Based on the data analysis, we identified four categories: biological needs, psychological needs, social needs and spiritual needs. These categories were further divided into 15 subcategories which further describe the individual needs of patients and allow to uncover data in more detail. Conclusion: The thesis describes the subjectively perceived needs of patients and by it offers a closer look to the lives of schizophrenics living in home. All respondents handle life in home environment, however the assistance of other people is necessary. Even though, the perceive living at home very positively even from the viewpoint of treatment. The information gathered from respondents were very beneficial and enriching and we think that this research brought an uncommon look into life of psychiatric patients.
