The Character of False Messiah in Contemporary Czech Prose

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá téma falešného mesiášství vázané na postavy tří románů současné české literatury dotýkajících se různou měrou subžánrové oblasti dystopie. Každá ze tří analýz přitom akcentuje jiný aspekt tématu: u románu Mondschein (2012) Ondřeje Štindla je to pohled sociologický, u románu Logoz (2019) Davida zábranského typologie postavy vycházející z práce Daniely Hodrové, u románu Můj bratr Mesiáš (2017) Martina Vopěnky pak analýza archetypálních vzorců vyprávění vycházející z práce Northropa Frye. Tematologický pohled pak zkoumá náboženské a spirituální motivy ve všech románech. Závěr práce srovnává myšlenková východiska mezi analyzovanou trojící a pokouší se je zařadit do náboženských tradic či současných spirituálních směrů.

Abstract:

This diploma examines the topic of the false messiah in connection with characters of three contemporary Czech novels that touch on the subgenre area of dystopia to a different extent. Each of the three analyses emphasizes a different aspect of the topic: in the novel Mondschein (2012) by Ondřej Štindl it is a sociological view, in the novel Logoz (2019) by David Zábranský the typology of the character based on Daniela Hodrová's work, in the novel Můj bratr Mesiáš (2017) by Martin Vopěnka analysis of archetypal patterns of narrative based on the work of Northrop Frye. The thematic view then examines religious and spiritual motifs in the novels. The conclusion of the thesis compares the starting points of ideas among the analysed three and tries to integrate them into religious traditions or current spiritual movements.
