Readiness of staff of residential social care facilities to provide care to clients in their terminal state

Abstract:

Cíl: Hlavním cílem práce bylo zjistit, zda jsou pracovníci multidisciplinárního týmu pobytových zařízení sociálních služeb (dále jen zařízení) připraveni poskytovat péči umírajícím klientům. K tomuto cíli bylo stanoveno 13 dílčích cílů. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor kvantitativní části tvořilo 188 pracovníků pobytových služeb (103 všeobecných sester ve vedoucích pracovních pozicích, 85 všeobecných sester). Data pro kvantitativní výzkum byla získána nestandardizovaným dotazníkem. Kvalitativní část výzkumu tvořily rozhovory se vzorky respondentů z řad účastníků kvalifikačního kurzu pro pracovníky v sociálních službách, s uchazeči o pracovní pozici pracovník v sociálních službách, s dobrovolníky, všeobecnými sestrami pracujícími v pobytových zařízeních sociálních služeb a registrujícími lékaři klientů v zařízeních. Výsledky: Z kvantitativního výzkumu vyplynulo, že pracovníci v pobytových zařízeních sociálních služeb jsou připraveni poskytovat péči umírajícím klientům. Převažuje přání příbuzných, odeslání klienta v terminálním stadiu lékařem do nemocnice. Kvalitativní výzkum ukázal, že účastníci kvalifikačního kurzu a uchazeči o pracovní pozici pracovník v sociálních službách, neočekávají, že budou pečovat o umírající klienty. Závěr: Z výzkumu vyplynul nedostatečný obsah kvalifikačního kurzu pro pracovníky v sociálních službách. Obsahem kvalifikačního kurzu pro pracovníky v sociálních službách nejsou informace z oblasti péče o umírající klienty, o tělo zesnulého klienta a komunikace nejen s umírajícím klientem, ale i s rodinou umírajícího klienta.

Abstract:

Aim: The main aim of this thesis was to find out whether the employees of the multidisciplinary team of nursing homes with social services (hereinafter referred to as nursing homes) are ready to take care of the dying clients. Thirteen partial targets were set to achieve the main aim. Methodology: The research set of the quantitative part of this work consisted of 188 employees of nursing homes (103 general nurses in chief positions, 85 other general nurses). Data for the quantitative research were acquired via non-standardized questionnaire. The qualitative part of the research consisted of dialogues with some of the participants of the training course for the social workers, job candidates in social services, volunteers, general nurses working in nursing homes with social services and the doctors registering the clients into nursing homes. Results: The quantitative research showed that the employees of nursing homes are ready to take care of the dying clients. The wish of the client's relatives that the doctor sends the client in the terminal state to hospital prevails. The qualitative research showed that the participants of the training course and the job candidates in social services do not expect to take care of the dying clients. Conclusion: The research showed some imperfections in the content of the training course for the employees of nursing homes. Information about the care of the dying clients, the care of the body of the deceased and about the communication with the dying clients and their families are not in the content of the training course for the employees of nursing homes.
