Children of the Trinity: A Trinitarian Ontology of Beauty Based on the German-speaking Trinitarian Ontology of the 20th Century

Abstract:

The most significant argument against the metaphysics of beauty was closely related to the question of theodicy. If being were to be convertible with the good and the beautiful, how could the everywhere-experienced fact of suffering and evil be understood? As a result of the scandalous suffering disrupting the beauty of being, an anti-metaphysical aesthetics was developed in modernity that distanced itself not only from pre-modern theological speculation but also from early modern rationalist metaphysics. However, as the suffering of innocent children reveals, the scandal of suffering is in itself metaphysical. In my dissertation, I claim that the metaphysics of beauty, which would have to be developed in the face of the innocent suffering, takes the shape of a renewed theological metaphysics, a Trinitarian ontology.

Abstract:

Nejvýznamnější argument proti metafyzice krásy úzce souvisí s otázkou teodiceje. Pokud by bytí mělo být konvertibilní s dobrem a krásou, jak by bylo lze rozumět všudypřítomné skutečnosti utrpení a zla? V důsledku skandálu utrpení rozrušujícího krásu bytí byla v moderní době pěstována antimetafyzická estetika, která se distancovala nejen od předmoderní teologické spekulace, ale také od raně novověké racionalistické metafyziky. Jak však nejjasněji ukazuje utrpení nevinných dětí, skandál utrpení je sám o sobě metafyzický. Ve své disertační práci argumentuji, že metafyzika krásy, která by byla rozvíjena tváří v tvář nevinnému utrpení, musí mít podobu obnovené teologické metafyziky neboli trinitární ontologie.
