Assessment of standing stability in neurologic patients

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje poruchám rovnováhy u pacientů po prodělané cévní mozkové příhodě. Zaměřuje se na možnosti hodnocení stability stoje. Cílem diplomové práce bylo zjistit, zda je vhodné použít systém Homebalance k měření stability stoje. V úvodních kapitolách je rozebrána problematika cévní mozkové příhody a posturální stability s možnostmi hodnocení stability stoje. Testování stability stoje probíhalo při zahájení a po ukončení rehabilitace na klinice a to systémem Homebalance a pomocí testu Bergovy funkční škály rovnováhy. Statistickými metodami jsme ověřili, že v obou testovaných metodách došlo na konci rehabilitace ke statisticky významnému zlepšení stability stoje (v případě Homebalance šlo o stoj s otevřenýma očima i stoj se zavřenýma očima). V testování referenční scény pomocí systému Homebalance došlo ke zkrácení času potřebného ke splnění úkolu, toto zlepšení však nebylo statisticky významné. Následnou korelační analýzou mezi výsledky testu z Bergovy funkční škály rovnováhy a měřením na systému Homebalance jsme zjistili statisticky významnou závislost. Výsledek statistického zpracování tedy ukázal, že systém Homebalance s Wii Balance Board by mohl být vhodným prostředkem k hodnocení stability stoje.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis studies balance disorders of patients with stroke. It focuses on possibilities of evaluation of standing stability. The research part of the master’s thesis is focused on testing standing stability using Berg Balance Scale and Homebalance software paired with Wii Balance Board before and after rehabilitation at the clinic. The aim of the master’s thesis is to determine appropriateness of using Homebalance system for standing stability measurement in patient with stroke. Using statistical methods, we’ve verified improvement in standing stability (eyes closed and open using Homebalance system and eyes open using Berg Balance Scale) at the end of rehabilitationat the clinic. Improvement of reference scene of Homebalance was not statistically significant. Correlation analyses between results using Berg Balance scale and Homebalance (eyes closed and open) of input and output examination proved correlation among all three tested methods except for testing of relationship between output examination of Berg Balance Scale and Homebalance with eyes opened which yielded no statistical significance. Used level of importance was α = 0,050. The result showed that Homebalance paired with Wii Balance Board could be a suitable means to determining the standing stability.
