Minor crops in the Czech Republic in environmental contexts

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vybranými minoritními plodinami pěstovanými v České republice a jejich vlastnostmi environmentálního charakteru. V souvislosti s touto problematikou nastiňuje problémy plynoucí z intenzivního zemědělství a pěstování konvenčních plodin spojené se ztrátou biodiverzity a s dopady klimatických změn, možnosti využití minoritních plodin v rámci diverzifikace zemědělství a uplatnění agroenvironmentálně-klimatických opatření. Představen je také vývoj struktury pěstovaných plodin na světě, v Evropské unii a v České republice, v porovnání s vybranými státy Evropské unie, Evropskou unií jako celkem i v rámci světa. S využitím primárních dat práce v rámci případové studie pro kraj Vysočina a Jihomoravský kraj identifikuje způsoby a míru využívání minoritních plodin a příležitosti a bariéry pěstování. Alternativní zemědělské postupy spojené především se střídáním plodin jsou jedním z významných nástrojů pro vytvoření udržitelných a odolných zemědělských systémů. Minoritní plodiny se v České republice pěstují jak v ekologickém, tak i v konvenčním zemědělství. Subjekty hospodařící v ekologickém zemědělství však pěstují tyto plodiny ve větším množství a často představují větší část portfolia pěstovaných plodin. Daleko častěji jsou zde minoritní plodiny pěstovány jako hlavní tržní plodiny, na rozdíl od konvenčního zemědělství, kde jsou spíše plodinami doplňkovými. Důvodem, proč nedochází k masivnějšímu rozšíření minoritních plodin, je existence bariér spojených s pěstováním. Za jedny z nejvýznamnějších bariér je označován obtížnější odbyt a náročnější posklizňová úprava.

Abstract:

This work deals with selected minor crops grown in the Czech Republic and their environmental characteristics. In connection with this issue, it outlines the problems arising from intensive agriculture and conventional crops associated with the loss of biodiversity and the effects of climate change, the possibilities of using minor crops in the diversification of agriculture and the application of agri-environmental-climate measures. The development of the structure of cultivated crops in the world, in the European Union and in the Czech Republic, in comparison with selected countries of the European Union, the European Union as a whole and within the world is also presented. Using the primary data in the case study for the Vysočina and South Moravian regions, it identifies the ways and extent of the use of minority crops and the opportunities and barriers to cultivation. Alternative farming practices, mainly linked to crop rotation, are one of the important tools for creating sustainable and resilient farming systems. Minor crops in the Czech Republic are grown in both organic and conventional agriculture. However, organic farmers grow these crops in larger quantities and often represent a larger part of the portfolio of cultivated crops. Far more often, minority crops are grown here as the main market crops, in contrast to conventional agriculture, where they are more complementary crops. The reason why there is no more massive spread of minority crops is the existence of barriers associated with cultivation. One of the most important barriers is the more difficult sales and more demanding post-harvest treatment.
