The approach of libraries to seniors with the focus on the Karel Dvoracek library in Vyskov

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá přístupem knihoven k seniorům se zaměřením na knihovnu Karla Dvořáčka ve Vyškově (KKD). Je zřejmé, že senioři budou v souvislosti se současným procesem demografického stárnutí ještě významnější sociální skupinou, než je tomu dnes. Do budoucna bude tedy velmi důležité, aby i knihovny na tento proces stárnutí populace adekvátně reagovaly. Diplomová práce se proto kromě vysvětlení relevantních pojmů, teoretického popisu významu knihoven pro kulturní a sociální rozvoj a části věnované konceptu komunitní knihovny, podrobně věnuje oblasti celoživotního vzdělávání a role knihoven v něm. Podstatnou část diplomové práce pak tvoří část věnující se KKD včetně analýzy aktivit KKD pro seniory a analýza tohoto typu aktivit ve jiných vybraných knihovnách. V rámci magisterské diplomové práce také bylo provedeno dotazníkové šetření mezi seniory navštěvující knihovnu. V závěru práce jsou formulována doporučení pro další rozvoj aktivit zaměřených na cílovou skupinu seniorů, a to jak doporučeních konkrétně pro KKD, tak obecně.

Abstract:

The Master diploma thesis deals with an approach of libraries to the community of seniors, with a focus on the Karel Dvořáček Library (KKD) in Vyškov. It is evident that in the context of current ageing process in society, the retired people are going to be an increasingly important social group. Therefore it is essential that even the public libraries reflect this ageing process. For this reason, the diploma thesis focuses not only on explanation of relevant terminology, description of public libraries for cultural and social development and the “community library” concept, but also the issue of life-long learning and a role of libraries in it is described in detail. A substantial part of the thesis is dedicated to KKD, including an analysis of activities run by KKD for elderly people as a target group as well as an analysis of this type of activities in other selected libraries. A survey was also undertaken among elderly people using the KKD library services as a part of the diploma thesis. In the end of the paper, recommendations for further development of activities for on elderly people are formulated. These recommendations are phrased both on the general level and with a focus to KKD respectively.
