White Sport with Disability: social documentary portrait

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je praktickou reflexí sociálního dokumentárního filmu s názvem „Bílý sport s handicapem“, který jsem natáčela v letech 2007–2009. Práce je složena ze dvou částí – sociálního dokumentárního portrétu na DVD a psané práce. Film je portrétem tělesně postiženého muže, který je od svých 21 let připoután na invalidní vozík. Klade si za cíl představit nejúspěšnějšího českého tenistu vozíčkáře – Miroslava Brychtu a podstatu tenisu na vozíku. Současně chce ukázat tento sport jako jednu z variant vyžití handicapovaným lidem po úrazu. Textová část se vrací k představení portrétované osobnosti, podstaty tenisu na vozíku a kooperujících organizací. Zároveň se však snaží hlouběji proniknout do problematiky handicapovaných, především integrace této minoritní skupiny do společnosti a na příkladu vysílání České televize poukázat na mediální zájem a informovanost o možnostech sportovního vyžití tělesně postižených. Kromě toho je v textové části nastíněna teorie dokumentární tvorby, ze které vychází kritické zhodnocením vlastní realizace filmu. Pomocí sociálního dokumentárního portrétu a psané části bylo cílem diplomové práce vytvořit sociální povědomí o sportujících handicapovaných jedincích především po úrazu. Diplomová práce „Bílý sport s handicapem“ obsahuje 150 834 znaků včetně mezer a 22 034 slov. Délka sociálního dokumentárního portrétu je 14 minut.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is a practical reflection on a social documentary film called White Sport with Disability, which was filmed in the period between 2007 and 2009. The thesis consists of two parts - the social documentary on a DVD and a theoretical paper. The film is a portrayal of a physically disabled man, who has been tied to a wheelchair since he was 21 years old. The goal of the story is to present this person - Miroslav Brychta - who is the most successful wheelchair tennis player in the Czech Republic. The film focuses on explaining principles of wheelchair tennis and aims to present this sport as an alternative activity for people who are handicapped due to an injury. The theoretical part of the thesis serves as an introduction of Mr. Brychta, description of wheelchair tennis, governing and cooperating organizations of this sport. It also tries to reflect broadly upon the general problems linked to a life of handicapped persons, above all the question of integration of this minority into society. The thesis uses the example of broadcast space on a public Czech Television to demonstrate media interest in possibilities of self-realization through sports for handicapped people. The textual part also outlines documentary film theory, which serves as a basis for critical evaluation of the creative process of making of the documentary film. The thesis White Sport with Disability contains 150 834 characters (including spacing) and 22 035 words. Footage of the social documentary film is 14 minutes.
