Lulu by Frank Wedekind: Femme fatale, or Femme enfant?

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with different versions of a drama „Pandora´s Box“ and “Earth Spirit” from German author Frank Wedekind. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical section. The theoretical section describes: the era, in which the dramas were made, literary style to which the dramas belong and the then theories about the characteristics of gender roles. Possible literary models for the analysed dramas were mentioned as a follow up to the historical-literary background. The practical section deals with the analysis of the main character from the dramas as well as with her relationship with other characters. At last, but not least the thesis addresses the question whether can be Lulu described as Femme fatale or Femme enfant.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá různými verzemi dramatu „Pandořina skříňka“ a „Duch země“ z pera německého spisovatele Franka Wedekinda. Je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. V teoretické části je popsána: doba, v které autor daná díla vytvořil, literární styl, do kterého se autor a zmíněná díla řadí a tehdejší teorie o charakteristice pohlaví. V návaznosti na historicko-literární pozadí jsou uvedeny možné literární předlohy pro analyzovaná díla. Praktická část se zabývá analýzou hlavní postavy těchto děl, jejími vztahy k ostatním postavám a otázkou, zda hlavní postava lze být označena jako Femme fatale nebo Femme enfant.
