Cílem prvních dvou kapitol této bakalářské práce je uvést do politické a vědecké situace ve Spojených státech Amerických před započetím Manhattanského projektu a představit jeho významné aktéry. Práce dále pokračuje popisem průběhu výzkumů v rámci Manhattanského projektu a vrcholí prvním testem plutoniové bomby v historii a bombardováním Japonska.
