Interactive and tactile illustrations from the book Skellig

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na problematiku taktilních (hmatových) knih a snaží se jak reflektovat současné trendy v jejich výrobě, tak podat vlastní názor a teoretickou invenci. Je rozdělena na dvě části, teoretickou a praktickou. Teoretická část nabízí stručné uvedení do pojmů a principů oftalmopedie a tyflografiky, což je obor specializovaný na výrobu grafiky pro osoby se zrakovým postižením. Tématem poslední kapitoly teoretické části pak je náhled do technik a trendů zpracování hmatových knih. Praktická část je tvořena projektem realizujícím návrh knihy s taktilními a interaktivními ilustracemi ke knize Davida Almonda Skellig a písemnou obhajobou tohoto projektu. V té je rozepsán postup výroby knihy od původní myšlenky až k finálnímu výsledku. Samotné zpracování knihy i ilustrací není cíleno pouze na osoby se zrakovým postižením, ale je plně inkluzívní, tedy vhodné i pro běžné čtenáře. Interaktivní prvky tedy umožňují vtažení čtenáře do příběhu a jeho intenzívnější prožití.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on tactile (haptic) books and tries to reflect current trends in their production, as well as express the author's own opinion and theoretical insight. It is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part provides a brief introduction to the concepts and principles opthalmopaedia and typhlographics, which is a field specialized in production of graphics for visually impaired people. Last chapter of this part is an insight into the techniques and trends of processing of the tactile books. The practical part consists of the project: a design of a book with tactile and interactive illustrations for the book by David Almond Skellig and a written defense of this project. In this part the whole process of book production from the initial idea to the final result is described in detail. The actual design of the books and illustrations is not targeted solely to the visually impaired people, but is fully inclusive, that is suitable for ordinary readers as well. Interactive elements thus help to pull the reader into the story and allow them to have an intense experience.
