Comic of Czech Early Modern Bohemical Drama

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje zejména na tři aspekty komiky raně novověkého dramatu (s využitím dalších žánrů): na vztah recipientů ke smíchu a karnevalizaci (oddíl Smějící se), vnímání komického se zřetelem k typizovaným postavám (Vysmívaní) a na produktivní principy v realizaci komického (Postupy). V prvém oddíle konstatujeme výrazně negativní vztah duchovních elit k burlesknímu smíchu (risus) a snahu setrvale jej nahrazovat veselím náboženského charakteru (laetitita). Naproti tomu zavádíme termín „traktační princip“ a evidujeme jeho přítomnost v bohemikálních dramatech jak v 16., tak i v 17. a 18. století, stejně jako zřetelnou snahu nahradit pozitivní invertovaný smích výsměchem, zejména sociálního charakteru. Vysmívané objekty byly schematizovány pomocí postupů typizace (vesničané, infernální postavy, matrimoniální vztahy) a stereotypizace (Židé). Jako nejproduktivnější postup nacházíme komickou enigmatičnost, několik druhů antitezí a ceremonialitu. Prosazujeme důsledné genologické rozlišení pojmů interludium a intermedium. Součástí práce je textová příloha publikující dosud nevydané ludibriální texty V. F. Kocmánka, Š. F. Náchodského, J. Jeníka z Bratřic aj.

Abstract:

The paper aims at three aspects of comedy in early modern Bohemian drama (taking other genres into consideration): it describes the relation between recipients and laughter, the carnival and carnevalisation (the first part, Laughing), the perception of comedy, focusing on typical characters (the second part, Ridicule) and productive procedures in comic realizations (the third part, Procedures). We record negative attitudes of ecclesiastical elites to any burlesque laughter (risus) and state their constant effort to replace it with moderately cheerful piety (laetitia). On the other hand, we introduce a new term the „tractatio principle“ or „banquet principle“ and we register its occurrence not only in the late 16th, but also in the 17th and 18th centuries. We also noticed an evident effort to turn positive and inverted laughter into social mockery. Objects of ridicule were degraded by standardisation (e.g. peasants, infernal characters, matrimonial relationship) and stereotyped (esp. Jews). We found that comic enigmas, several types of antitheses and ceremony are the most productive procedures used. We insist on a consistent distinction between terms interludium and intermedium. The paper contains a textual appendix of hitherto unpublished texts by V. F. Kocmánek, Š. F. Náchodský, J. Jeník z Bratřic and others.
