Abstract:

Tato disertační práce provádí kritickou analýzu filozofických a etických aspektů, které stojí v základech vizuální reprezentace, zkoumá složitý vztah mezi fotografickými obrazy a realitou. Skrze prizma studií vizuální kultury zkoumá ontologický status fotografie jako média, které jak odráží, tak i konstruuje realitu, účastníc se tvorby hyperreálného vesmíru obrazů v souladu s teorií Baudrillarda. Článek zkoumá nuancovanou interakci mezi viditelností a neviditelností, reprezentací a opomenutím v oblasti vizuální kultury, se zvláštním důrazem na válečnou fotografii. Dále provádí přehled fotografických reprezentací nahoty, se zvláštním zřetelem na zobrazení dětí. Opírajíc se o komplexní analýzu historických, kulturních a právních perspektiv, práce se ponořuje do nuancované debaty o vizuální dokumentaci a veřejném šíření takových obrazů. Zvažuje kulturní tabu a právní rámce, které ovlivňují fungování těchto obrazů, přihlížejíc k měnícím se společenským normám a vlivu digitálních technologií na jejich vnímání a distribuci. Prostřednictvím analýzy vybraných případových studií, včetně kontroverzních prací umělců jako jsou Sally Mann a Richard Prince, Will McBridge, práce zkoumá hranice mezi uměleckou svobodou a etickou odpovědností. Zdůrazňuje napětí mezi tvůrčí potřebou prozkoumávat autentické lidské zkušenosti a ochranou důstojnosti a soukromí fotografovaných osob. Teoretické základy práce byly obohaceny o kritické debaty o „viditelnosti”, „cizosti”, dynamice moci, roli diváka a kulturním kontextu v interpretaci obrazů, povzbuzujíc diváky k reflexi nad jejich vnímáním a předsudky. Tato práce, zahrnujíc perspektivu viditelnosti a neviditelnosti v kontextu fotografie a jejího vlivu na naše vnímání a interpretaci reality, nejenže vyzývá diváky, aby znovu zvážili své chápání fotografické reprezentace, ale také povzbuzuje ke kritické reflexi nad rolí obrazů ve formování naší kolektivní vědomí.

Abstract:

This dissertation conducts a critical analysis of the philosophical and ethical aspects underlying visual representation, exploring the complex relationship between photographic images and reality. Through the prism of studies on visual culture, it examines the ontological status of photography as a medium that both reflects and constructs reality, participating in the creation of a hyperreal universe of images, in accordance with Baudrillard's theory. The article investigates the nuanced interaction between visibility and invisibility, representation and omission in the realm of visual culture, with a particular emphasis on war photography. It also reviews photographic representations of nudity, with special attention to depictions of children. Based on a comprehensive analysis of historical, cultural, and legal perspectives, the dissertation delves into a nuanced debate around visual documentation and the public dissemination of such images. It considers cultural taboos and legal frameworks that influence the functioning of these images, taking into account changing social norms and the impact of digital technology on their perception and distribution. Through the analysis of selected case studies, including controversial works by artists such as Sally Mann, Richard Prince, and Will McBridge, the dissertation examines the boundaries between artistic freedom and ethical responsibility. It highlights the tension between the creative need to explore authentic human experiences and the protection of the dignity and privacy of those photographed. The theoretical foundations of the dissertation have been enriched by critical debates on „visibility”, „the Other”, the dynamics of power, the role of the viewer, and the cultural context in the interpretation of images, encouraging audiences to reflect on their perception and prejudices. By incorporating the perspective of visibility and invisibility in the context of Photography and its impact on our perception and interpretation of reality, the work not only challenges viewers to reconsider their understanding of photographic representation but also encourages critical reflection on the role of images in shaping our collective consciousness.
