Auditing in banks

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je deskripce a analýza postupů při provádění auditu v bance. Jsou zde vysvětleny pojmy, které s bankou a auditem souvisejí. Teoretická část je zprvu věnována podniku a podnikání. Je zde uvedena historie podnikání a všeobecná pravidla, která se podniku týkají. Následně je zde představena banka a uvedena její charakteristika a popsány její specifika. Závěr teoretické části je věnován auditu samotnému. Je uveden jeho historický vývoj, a to z globálního hlediska a následně i jeho vývoje v České Republice. Zároveň je popsána funkce a právní úprava. Druhá, praktická část této práce se zaobírá využitím auditu ve vybrané bance. Úvod praktické části je věnován samotným typům auditu, prováděných v bance a zároveň vztahu externího a interního auditu, přičemž je zde popsána jejich rozdílnost a také vzájemná spolupráce. Následně je zmíněno postavení interního auditu v organizační struktuře banky, jeho nezávislost a požadavky České národní banky na interní audit. Závěrem zmiňuji konkrétní kroky, jenž je nezbytné učinit pro úspěšné provedení auditu, a to od naplánování až po kontrolu a dokumentaci auditu v bance. Tato práce je napsána v logické postupnosti, zprvu vysvětlením důležitých prvků, které se tématu týkají a následně jejich fungování v praxi. Bakalářská práce přispívá k rozšíření povědomí o auditu a jeho konkrétní podobě v bance.

Abstract:

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to describe and analyse procedures in the process of bank auditing. It explains terms that are related to banks and audit. The theoretical section is firstly dedicated to enterprise and enterprise entities. It also deals with history of enterprise and the general rules applied to it. The following part introduces the bank, its characteristics and specifics. The final part of the theoretical section is dedicated to audit itself. Author gives an insight to the history of audit from the global point of view and its evolution in the Czech Republic. The function and legislation. The second, practical section of the thesis focuses on the use of audit in a specific bank. The introductory part of the practical section is dedicated to particular types of audit executed in banks and also to the relations of external and internal audit, including a description of their differences and mutual cooperation. In the next part, the position of internal audit within the bank’s structure, its independence and the requirements placed on internal audit by the Czech National Bank are mentioned. In the final part, the author outlines particular steps necessary in order to achieve a successful audit – from planning to inspection and documentation of bank auditing. This thesis has been written with the logical order in mind – firstly explaining important elements related to the topic and secondly describing their practical function. This bachelor thesis contributes to a wider familiarization with audit and its particular form in banks.
