Vliv rodičů a jejich socioekonomického postavení na úspěch první start-up společnosti jejich dítěte

Abstract:

Cílem této disertační práce bylo určit míru a povahu vlivu rodičů a jejich socioekonomického postavení na úspěch prvního start-upu jejich dítěte. Literární přehled provedený pro tuto studii ukázal, že ačkoli bylo na globální úrovni provedeno značné množství výzkumů o podnikání, dosavadní publikace v německém kontextu jsou navzdory ekonomickému významu start-upů nedostatečné. Navíc často opomíjí vlivu rodičů a socioekonomického postavení jako faktorů úspěchu. Výzkumná metodologie této studie byla založena na smíšeném přístupu, který umožnil spolupráci se skupinou 20 začínajících podnikatelů z různých socioekonomických prostředí, přičemž jejich zkušenosti a vnímání vlivu rodičů a kritéria úspěchu mohly být následně testovány v kvantitativní studii. Odpovědi na polostrukturované rozhovory vedené s podnikateli byly analyzovány pomocí obsahové analýzy a hlavní zjištění tvořila základ pro dotazníkové šetření v kvantitativní studii. Průzkumu se zúčastnilo 401 německých podnikatelů, kteří založili svůj první start-up. Data o start-upech poskytla německá firma Start-Up Detector, což svědčí o jejich vysoké spolehlivosti. Hlavní zjištění z výzkumu byla, že socioekonomické postavení rodičů má pozitivní vliv na akademický úspěch dětí, ale také že socioekonomické postavení zakladatele mělo pozitivní vliv na úspěch z hlediska získání finančních prostředků na podnikání, což zahrnovalo externí financování a nízké nebo žádné životní náklady díky podpoře rodičů během období start-upu. Průzkum však také ukázal, že podpora rodičů byla faktorem úspěchu pro začínající podnikatele bez ohledu na socioekonomické postavení jejich rodičů. Bylo identifikováno několik potenciálních podnětů pro další výzkum úspěchu prvních start-upů: spojení mezi socioekonomickým postavením rodičů a socializačními dovednostmi; objasnění, které získané vlastnosti rodičů byly nejdůležitější pro úspěch start-upu; ověření odborných dovedností a charakteristik úspěšných podnikatelů získaných vlivem rodičů. Hlavními omezeními této studie jsou, že zjištění platí pro německé první start-upy a nelze je zobecnit na globální kontext; řada názorů z polostrukturovaných rozhovorů nemohla být zahrnuta do této disertační práce, ale tvoří základ pro další výzkum. Výzkum poskytl významné implikace pro rozvoj teoretického poznání i pro současnou praxi investorů při hodnocení potenciálu nových start-upů a pro ty, kteří jsou zodpovědní za plánování a poskytování školení a rozvoje start-upů v Německu.

Abstract:

The objective of this thesis was to determine the degree and nature of the influence that parents and their socio-economic status have on the success of their child’s first start-up company. The literature review conducted for this study demonstrated that although substantial research has been conducted on entrepreneurship globally, existing literature in the German context was sparse despite the economic importance of start-ups. It also tended to neglect parental influence and socio-economic status as success factors. The research methodology for this study was based on a mixed methods approach, selected to initially facilitate close engagement with a group of 20 first-time entrepreneurs from a range of socio-economic backgrounds so that their experiences and perceptions of parental influence and success criteria could be tested in a subsequent quantitative study. The responses to the semi-structured interviews conducted with the entrepreneurs were analyzed using content analysis and the main findings formed the basis for the questionnaire survey in the quantitative study. 401 German entrepreneurs who founded their first start-up took part in the survey. The start-up data was provided by the German firm Start-Up Detector, inferring its high reliability. The main findings from the research were that the socio-economic status of parents has a positive influence on the academic success of children, but also that the founder’s socio-economic status had a positive influence on the success in terms of gaining access to funding the venture, which comprised external funding and low or no living costs owing to parental support during the start-up period. However, the survey also established that parental support was a success factor for first-time entrepreneurs, regardless of the socio-economic status of their parents. Several potential stimuli for further study into first-time entrepreneurial success were identified: the link between parental socio-economic status and socialization skills; clarification of which parental traits acquired were most important for start-up success; validation of the professional skills and characteristics for successful entrepreneurs acquired from parental influence. The main limitations of this study are that the findings apply to German first-time start-ups and cannot be generalized to a global context; a range of opinions from the semi-structured interviews could not be included in this thesis report but form the basis for additional research. The research revealed significant implications for current investor practices when evaluating the potential of new start-ups and for those responsible for planning and delivering start-up training and development in Germany.
