Distributional associations of chironomid larvae across spatial scales of fluvial ecosystems

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá distribucí larev pakomárů v závislosti na parametrech prostředí. Pro tento účel byly sloučeny záznamy o taxocenózách larev pakomárů ze tří zdrojů (projekty AQEM, STAR a program monitoringu). Biologická data byla doplněna GIS analýzou o informace ohledně krajinného pokryvu v rámci různých prostorových škál a k dispozici byly také tzv. pozaďové parametry (nadmořská výška, vzdálenost od pramene, řád toku, plocha povodí). Na 149 lokalitách bylo zaznamenáno 95 taxonů pakomárovitých. Kromě počtu jedinců jednotlivých taxonů byly také spočítány obecnější charakteristiky taxocenóz (relativní abundance a diverzita podčeledí a tribů) a vybrané charakteristiky celých společenstev bentických bezobratlých (např. index biocenotického regionu). K vyhodnocení vazeb mezi taxocenózami pakomárovitých a podmínkami prostředí byly využity metody shlukové analýzy, klasifikačních stromů a analýzy indikátorových druhů. Vznikly dvě klasifikace lokalit – abiotická a biologická, pro jednotlivé skupiny byly určeny charakteristické taxony. Abiotická klasifikace byla pomocí klasifikačních stromů popsána formou hierarchicky uspořádaných prahových hodnot parametrů prostředí. Skupiny biologické klasifikace byly vyhodnoceny stejnými metodami. Výsledkem tedy byly skupiny lokalit s podobnými taxocenózami pakomárů, jejich charakteristické taxony a systém rozhodovacích pravidel jak se k těmto biologickým skupinám dostat prostřednictvím optimálního souboru abiotických parametrů a jejich specifických prahových hodnot. Vedle toho byla provedena klasifikace taxonů na základě jejich společného výskytu a pro vybrané druhy byla vyhodnocena koexistence. Metodou váženého průměru byla stanovena preference taxonů vůči vybraným parametrům prostředí a zonální charakteristice celého společenstva makrozoobentosu. Získané výsledky byly interpretovány v kontextu známých autekologických charakteristik vybraných taxonů (preference k zónám podélného profilu toku, potravní strategie).

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the distribution of chironomid larvae depending on environmental parameters. For this purpose, records of Chironomidae taxocenoses were combined from three sources (AQEM project, STAR project and monitoring programme). Biological data were supplemented by GIS analysis with information on land cover within different spatial scales, and background parameters (altitude, distance from source, stream order, catchment area) were also available. 95 chironomid taxa were recorded at 149 sites. In addition to the abundance of individual taxa, more general characteristics of taxocenoses (relative abundance and diversity of subfamilies and tribes) and selected characteristics of whole communities of benthic invertebrates (e.g. Index of Biocoenotic Region Index) were also calculated. The methods of cluster analysis, classification trees and Indicator Species Analysis were used to evaluate the links between chironomid taxocenoses and environmental conditions. Two classifications of sites were created – abiotic and biotic, characteristic taxa were determined for each group. The abiotic classification was described using classification trees in the form of hierarchically arranged thresholds of environmental parameters. The groups of biological classification were evaluated by the same methods. The result was therefore groups of sites with similar chironomid taxocenoses, their characteristic taxa and a system of decision rules on how to reach these biological groups through an optimal set of abiotic parameters and their specific thresholds. In addition, taxa were classified on the basis of their common occurrence and coexistence was evaluated for selected taxa. The weighted average method determined the preference of taxa towards selected environmental parameters and zonal characteristics of the whole macroinvertebrate communities. The results obtained were interpreted in the context of known autecological characteristics of selected taxa (preference to longitudinal zones of streams, feeding strategy).
