Light as a factor in the process of exhibiting visual arts

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání fenoménu světla v oblasti vystavování vizuálního umění. V práci je shrnut historický vývoj galerijnictví a muzejnictví, který je doplněn o kontext používané světelné techniky včetně jejích výhod či nevýhod, a to zejména s ohledem na ochranu artefaktů před negativními vlivy, které různá světelná řešení přináší. Dále je v práci zkoumána zásadní změna ve vztahu uměleckého díla a světla, především v kontextu současného světelného umění. Práce se současnými světelnými doporučeními je v práci ověřena v praxi výzkumem v konkrétních kulturních institucích.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the study of the phenomenon of light in the field of exhibiting of visual arts. The work summarizes the historical development of art galleries and museums, which is supplemented by the context of used lighting technology, including its advantages and disadvantages, especially with regard to the protection of artifacts from the negative effects that various lighting solutions bring. Furthermore, the work examines a fundamental change in the relationship between artwork and light, especially in the context of contemporary light art. In this thesis, the usage of current lighting recommendations is verified through research in specific cultural institutions.
