Abstract:

Diplomová práce „The Implementation of Communication-based Activities in the Callan Method“ pojednává o problematice užití Callanovy metody, rozšířené v celém světě, mající zastoupení i v České republice. Teoretická část práce popisuje metodologii Callanovy Metody, představuje ji v historickém kontextu a na základě vlastních zkušeností autorky a teoretického výzkumu dané oblasti, prezentuje kladné i záporné stránky této metody. Na základě získaných dat je proveden výzkum zaměřující se na nedostatky Callanovy Metody s cílem jejich zlepšení. Jedná se zejména o chybějící aktivity rozvíjející komunikační dovednosti žáků. Praktická část nejprve navrhuje možné aktivity zaměřující se na rozvoj komunikačních dovedností, poté je prověřuje na skupině studentů jazykové školy a ve finální fázi hodnotí, pomocí dotazníku, jak žáci vnímají integraci těchto aktivit, a zda má podle jejich názoru pozitivní vliv na rozvoj jejich jazykových dovedností.

Abstract:

The Diploma thesis "The Implementation of Communication-based Activities in the Callan Method" deals with the use of the Callan Method, the teaching method that is used all over the world, including the Czech Republic. The theoretical part describes the methodology of the Callan Method, puts it into the historical context and on the basis of the author´s own experience and theoretical research, it presents positive and negative aspects of this method. On the basis of the collected data, the research focusing on the negative aspects of the Callan Method with the aim to improve them is conducted. Specifically, it deals with the missing activities improving and developing students´ communication skills. The practical part of the thesis initially designs possible activities focusing on the communication skills´ development, afterward, these activities are piloted with students of a language school. The final part includes a questionnaire that evaluates students´ perception of integration of such activities. It also deals with the question whether according to students´ opinion the integration has a positive effect on the development of their language skills
