Fall and Mortality in the Fiction of J. R. R. Tolkien
Abstract:
This thesis is an analysis of two recurrent motifs in Tolkien’s fiction – Fall and Mortality. The main ideas of the thesis pursued through Tolkien’s fiction are: the Fall is a means of achieving a greater glory of creation; when trying to do good, one can also fall; an unnatural prolongation of life should not be attempted; Death is our curse but also our blessing.
