Metaphysical Anchoring of Angels as Separated Substances by Thomas Aquinas

Abstract:

Středověký křesťanský filosof Tomáš Akvinský věnoval metafyzickému zakotvení separo-vaných substancí ? andělů ? nezanedbatelnou část své rozsáhlé myšlenkové koncepce. Re-flektovat tuto skutečnost si klade za cíl má bakalářská práce. První část na základě Tomášo-vých děl Summa theologiae a Summa contra gentiles mapuje andělský původ, popis jejich vlastností, zdůvodnění jejich existence, jejich zasazení do světového řádu a podstatu jejich myšlení a poznávání. Druhá část práce vychází z traktátu De substantiis separatis, kde se především v konfrontaci s názory jiných metafyziků, soudržnost Tomášova výjimečného myšlenkového konstruktu plně projevuje.

Abstract:

Medieval Christian philosopher Thomas Aquinas inquired into metaphysical anchoring of separated substances angels, which comprises a considerable part of his extensive intellectual concept. My bachelor thesis is focused on the above-mentioned fact. The first part is based on the works of Thomas' Summa Theologica and the Summa contra Gentiles which covers angelic origin, description of their properties, the justification for their existence, their inser-tion into the global order, and the nature of their way of thinking and cognition. The second part is founded on the treatise De substantiis separatists with special regard to confrontation with the views of other metaphysicians where a consistency of Thomas exceptional intellec-tual construct comes fully to light.
