Development of Relationships of Syria and European Union with Forcefully on Present

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce „Vývoj vzájemných vztahů Evropské unie a Sýrie s důrazem na současnost“ zpracovává vývoj vzájemných vztahů Sýrie a Evropské unie. Cílem práce je zjistit (1) na jakém stupni a úrovni kooperace se v současnosti zmínění aktéři pohybují, a to i v porovnání s ostatními účastníky Barcelonského procesu, (2) jaký vliv má Evropská unie na Sýrii v porovnání s jinými silnými aktéry – Ruskem a USA a (3) jaká je role Sýrie v projektu Euro-středomořského partnerství a Unii pro Středomoří. Jádro práce vychází z analýzy novodobých událostí, mezi něž patří zejména již zmíněný Barcelonský proces (1995) Dohoda o přidružení (2008) či nejnověji Asociační dohoda (2009). První kapitola práce však popisuje také historické souvislosti (zejména vztah Sýrie a Francie, Dohoda Sýrie – ES o spolupráci z roku 1977), jež současnou podobu vzájemných vztahů svým způsobem konstruovaly.

Abstract:

This thesis “Development of Relationships of Syria and European Union with Forcefully on Present” deals with the progress of relations between the EU and Syria. The aim of this work is to find out (1) in which degree and level of cooperation are these two political players in this time and compare this with other states included in the Barcelona Process, (2) how is the European Union’s influence over Syria in comparison with other strong players – Russia and the USA and (3) what is the Syria’s role in the project of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and the Union for the Mediterranean. The gist of this work is based on the analysis of the contemporary events – especially the Barcelona Process (1995), the Agreement of Cooperation (2008) and the Association Agreement (2009). The first part of this work describes the historical events (especially the bilateral relation between Syria and France, the Cooperation Agreement 1977) which partly influence the contemporary relations.
