Cat parasites with an emphasis on the occurrence of zoonotic tapeworms.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou parazitů kočky domácí (Felis catus) v České republice. Cílem práce bylo poskytnout přehled zoonotických parazitů kočky domácí (Felis catus) s cílem posoudit potencionální riziko pro chovatele. Na základě dostupné literatury byla vypracována literární rešerše, ve které byla popsána parazitologie, prvoci, hlístice a tasemnice s jejich vybranými zástupci, včetně morfologie, vývojových cyklů, klinických příznaků a jejich riziku pro lidi. Dále byla práce doplněna o vlastní průzkum parazitů koček, zvláště z míst, kde je jich větší množství na jednom místě a koček žijících v blízkosti lesa prostřednictvím koprologického vyšetření. Během výzkumu bylo vyšetřeno 18 vzorků kočičího trusu, získaných ze soukromých chovů převážně z Pardubického kraje. Vzorky byly vyšetřeny Cornell – Wisconsinovou metodou na přítomnost gastrointestinálních parazitů. Výzkum byl také doplněn o larvoskopické vyšetření pomocí Baermanovy metody na zjištění přítomnosti plicnivek. Součástí byl také dotazník pro majitele koček na základě, kterého byly vyhodnoceny výsledky. Z celkového počtu 18 vzorků se potvrdilo 7 pozitivních. Celková četnost tedy odpovídá 39 %. Nejčastěji vyskytujícím se parazitem byla Toxocara cati s prevalencí 33 %. Dalšími nalezenými parazity byly Toxascaris leonina (5,5 %), Toxocara canis (5,5 %), Capillaria spp. (5,5 %) a Taenia spp. (5,5 %). Během výzkumu bylo zjištěno, že prevalence je ovlivněna přístupem kočky ven a možnost lovu. Bylo prokázáno, že kočky slouží jako hostitelé mnoha parazitů, z nichž má většina zoonotický potenciál.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of domestic cat parasites (Felis catus) in the Czech Republic. The aim of the work was to provide an overview of the cat's zoonotic parasites (Felis catus) in order to assess the potential risk to breeders. On the basis of the available literature, a literary research was carried out describing parasitology, protozoa, nematodes and tapeworms with their chosen representatives, including morphology, developmental cycles, clinical signs and their risk to humans. Furthermore, the work was complemented by its own survey of cat parasites, especially from places where there are a greater number of them in one place and cats living near the forest through coprologe testing. During the research, 18 samples of cat faeces were examined, obtained from private farms mainly from the Pardubice Region. The samples were examined by Cornell- Wisconsin method for the presence of gastrointestinal parasites. The research was also supplemented with a larvoscopic examination using baerman's method to detect the presence of lungworms. It also included a questionnaire for cat owners based on which results were evaluated. Out of a total of 18 samples, 7 were confirmed positive. The overall frequency is therefore equivalent to 39%. The most frequently occurring parasite was Toxocara cati with a prevalence of 33%. The other parasites found were Toxascaris leonina (5.5%), Toxocara canis (5.5%), Capillaria spp. (5.5%) and Taenia spp. (5.5%). During the research, the prevalence was found to be influenced by the cat's access to the outside and the possibility of hunting. Cats have been shown to serve as hosts for many parasites, most of which have zoonotic potential.
