Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zanalyzovat tři díla dystopické literatury, Dárce od Lois Lowry, Cesta od Cormaca McCarthyho a Neopouštěj mě od Kazua Ishigura, a následně definovat úlohu dětí. Práce pomocí analýzy zmíněných děl dokazuje, že dětské postavy v dystopické literatuře slouží jako motivace pro ostatní postavy, jako aktivní složka příběhu a také jako symbol. Různým způsobům použití dětských postav ve zmíněných dílech věnuje práce tři kapitoly ze čtyř. Ta čtvrtá se zabývá porovnáním konání dětských a dospělých postav.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyze three works of dystopian literature, Lois Lowry’s The Giver, Cormac McCarthy’s The Road and Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go and determine the role of children in dystopian literature. Using the analysis of said works, this thesis proves that child characters in dystopian literature possess significant value as symbols and they serve as motivation for other characters as well as an active element of the story. The thesis analyzes different types of usage of child characters in the said novels. In its three chapters, it describes the usage of children as symbols, the motivation that these characters provide and the ways it influences the plot, and finally the difference between the actions of child and adult characters.
