Urban Legends and Rumours, its Emergence and Distribution

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce „Urban legends a fámy, jejich vznik a šíření“ si dává za cíl nastínit základní problematiku moderního folkloru, tak jak se s ním lze v současnosti setkat. V první kapitole se zabývá základními termíny jako současné pověsti, hoax, fámy a rozdíly mezi nimi. V dalších částech se snaží objasnit některé z procesů, které se odehrávají při jejich šíření, hodnotou obsažené informace a rovněž množstvím dezinformace, do sdělení vnášené a zda prospěch z jednoho vyváží riziko druhého. Následující kapitoly jsou pak zaměřeny na konkrétní principy šíření a struktur, které tak vznikají. Předposlední část si dává za cíl sestavit orientační klasifikaci současných legend. V poslední části se potom nachází výzkum, který se zaměřil na zjištění obecného povědomí veřejnosti o problematice urban legend a experiment s cílem zjistit strukturu šíření fámy.

Abstract:

The diploma work “Urban Legends and Rumours, its Emergence and Distribution” faces the task of throwing a light to questions of modern folklore as you might encounter it nowadays. The first chapter deals with the basic terms such as contemporary legends, hoax, rumours and differences between those. In the following chapter, the paper is attempting to clarify some of the processes influencing dissemination, information value and amount of disinformation that had been interjected into the message and comparing the benefit of one against the risks of the other one. Next parts are focused on specific principles of distribution and structures the rumours and urban legends forms as they spread throughout the community. The next to the last chapter is trying to compile a classification of the contemporary legends, while the last chapter contains a research focusing on the awareness of people about the urban legends and experiment with a goal to discover a structure of rumour spreading inside the enclosed community.
