Transparency of Documentary Photography and its Consequences

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce se snaží o odhalení (estetické) hodnoty dokumentární fotografie. Jejím základem je interpretace studie ‚Fotografie a zobrazení‘ Rogera Scrutona, kterou podrobuje kritice vycházející z akademické diskuse o podstatě fotografie z posledních let. Z té vyplývají klíčové pojmy, které jsou v druhé části práce podrobněji vykládány. Ústředním bodem je ‚transparence‘, jejíž důsledky se ve fotografii projevují jak v oblasti individuálního autorského stylu, tak i v otázce vztahu estetického a praktického zájmu, které fotografie v recipientovi budí.

Abstract:

The core of this BA thesis is disclosure of the (aesthetic) value of documentary photography. This work build on interpretation of an essay ‘Photography and representation’ by Roger Scruton, which is strictly interrogate by principles of academic debate about a nature of photography of the last years. From this discussion figure key points, which are explain minutely in the second part of the work. Main point is ‘transparency’, which shape individual authorial style and it’s presence in photography, and the relation between aesthetic and practical interest about photography.
