Stigma of mental disease - myth or reality?

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na stigma duševní nemoci v současné společnosti. Cílem této práce je zjistit, zda v dnešní době přetrvává stigmatizace duševně nemocných, jaký je postoj veřejnosti k duševně nemocným a jaký je názor na diskriminaci těchto lidí. Skupina nemocných s duševním onemocněním je definována pomocí pojmů – duševní porucha a duševní zdraví. V práci je popsána kvalita života psychiatricky nemocných a také jejich rodin a historie ošetřování duševně nemocných. Práce se zabývá problematikou stigmatizace a jejího dopadu na nemocné občany. Jedna kapitola se věnuje odstranění stigmatu – destigmatizaci. Úkolem destigmatizace je změnit postoj společnosti k duševně nemocným lidem, aby nedocházelo k izolování a podceňování těchto osob. Z výsledků dotazníkového šetření v empirické části práce vyplývají určité výstupy, které ukazují, jaké jsou názory respondentů ve společnosti na stigmatizaci nemocných, na duševně nemocné a na diskriminaci postižených lidí. Tyto názory respondentů jsou velmi cenné, protože nastavují pravdivou skutečnost této problematiky ve společnosti.

Abstract:

This Thesis is concerning to the mentally illness stigma in contemporary society. The aim of this Thesis is detecting if the mentally illness stigmatization is lasting in these days, what public attitude is presented to the mentally ill and what is the public opinion to the mentally ill discrimination. The mentally ill are defined by these concepts: mental deficiency and mentally health. The Thesis is describing life quality of the psychiatric ill and their families as well and also the history of mentally ill care is describing here. The Thesis is concentrated on problems of stigmatization and its impact to ill people. One chapter is concentrated on stigmatization removals - non stigmatization. The purpose of non stigmatization is changing of public attitude to the mentally ill so that these people will be not isolated and underestimated. The questionnaire results presented in empirical part of the Thesis refer to respondents´ attitudes to the mentally ill stigmatization, the attitudes to the mentally ill and the attitudes to mentally handicapped people discrimination in our society. These questionnaires´ attitudes are very valuable because they are presenting the true reality of the problem in society.
