Comparison of Tourism in the Czech Republic and Portugal

Abstract:

HORT, Martin. Komparace cestovního ruchu v České republice a Portugalsku [Diplomová práce] Vysoká škola hotelová. Praha: 2020. 79 stran. Cílem této diplomové práce je porovnat neboli komparovat stav, vývoj a přínos cestovního ruchu v České republice a v Portugalsku v období 5 let od roku 2013 do roku 2017 včetně. Ke komparaci jsou použity makroekonomické ukazatele jako jsou celkové příjezdy turistů, platební bilance tohoto odvětví, zaměstnanost, hrubý domácí produkt, cenová hladina a další. Z důvodu obsáhlejšího pojetí problematiky jsou taktéž komparovány ubytovací zařízení nacházející se na území těchto zemí. Jmenovitě je zde komparován počet ubytovacích zařízení, počet v nich provozovaných pěti hvězdičkových a čtyř hvězdičkových hotelů a lůžek, dále čistá míra obsazenosti lůžek a pokojů, počet přenocování v ubytovacích zařízení a v neposlední řadě i počet příjezdů rezidentů a nerezidentů do těchto zařízení. Z výsledků této diplomové práce vyplývá, že portugalský cestovní ruch měl v těchto letech mnohem progresivnější vývoj, zvláště pak v roce 2016 a 2017. Díky tomuto zde byly zaznamenávány mnohem větší meziroční nárůsty makroekonomických ukazatelů něž v případě České republiky. To mělo za důsledek stále větší přínos cestovního ruchu v portugalském prostředí a ekonomice. Na tomto výsledku se mimo jiné dosti podílela skvělá propagace přes národní organizaci Turismo de Portugal. Při komparaci ubytovacích zařízení bylo zjištěno, že v Portugalsku se nacházela v průměru větší a lépe rozmístěna ubytovací zařízení a to po celé zemi. Taktéž počet těchto zařízení byl rozdílný a směřoval opačných směrem. V české republice jejich počet klesal a v Portugalsku rostl. I přesto dosahovala portugalská zařízení po celou sledovanou dobu vyšší obsazenosti. Dle posledních dvou ukazatelů je zřejmé, že se do Portugalska v letech 2013 až 2017 jezdilo ze zahraničí na delší dobu a že portugalští občané se na domácím cestovním ruchu podíleli více formou příjezdů do ubytovacích zařízení své vlasti.

Abstract:

HORT, Martin. Comparison of Tourism in the Czech Republic and Portugal. [Master’s Dissertation] The institute Of Hospitality Management. Prague: 2020. 79 pages. The aim of this thesis is to compare the state, development and benefits of tourism in the Czech Republic and Portugal in the period of 5 years from 2013 to 2017 inclusive. Macroeconomic indicators such as total tourist arrivals, balance of payments of the sector, employment, gross domestic product, price level and others are used for comparison. Due to a more comprehensive concept of the issue, accommodation facilities located in the territory of these countries are also compared. Namely, the number of accommodation establishments, the number of five-star and four-star hotels and beds operated in them is compared here, as well as the net occupancy rate of beds and rooms, the number of overnight stays in accommodation establishments and last but not least the number of arrivals of residents and non-residents. The results of this thesis show that Portuguese tourism has had a much more progressive development in these years, especially in 2016 and 2017. Thanks to this, much larger year-on-year increases in macroeconomic indicators were recorded than in the case of the Czech Republic. This has resulted in the growing benefits of tourism in the Portuguese environment and economy. Among other things, the great promotion through the national organization Turismo de Portugal contributed to this result. When comparing accommodation establishments, it was found that in Portugal there were, on average, larger and better distributed accommodation establishments throughout the country. Also, the number of these devices was different and went in opposite directions. In the Czech Republic their number decreased and in Portugal it increased. Nevertheless, Portuguese facilities achieved higher occupancy throughout the period under review. According to the last two indicators, it is clear that from 2013 to 2017, it has been traveled to Portugal from abroad for a longer period of time and that Portuguese citizens participated more in domestic tourism in the form of arrivals to accommodation facilities in their homeland.
