Communication of Environmental Elements of the Company Continental Barum and their Influence on the Company Image

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá zkoumáním image průmyslové společnosti Continental Barum s.r.o. v Otrokovicích v oblasti související s životním prostředím a její ochranou. Společnost Continental Barum je výrobcem plášťů pro osobní, nákladní, průmyslová a speciální vozidla a autobusy. Teoretická část vymezuje pojmy související právě s image, s veřejným míněním, se CSR aktivitami firem, s nástrahami krizové komunikace a jak krizi předcházet a jak jí čelit. Součástí práce je i charakteristika termínů z oblasti marketingového výzkumu a zpracovaná metodika práce. Při zpracování práce byly použity metody kvalitativního i kvantitativního výzkumu. Se skupinou manažerů ESH nebo manažerů komunikace autorka práce provedla osobní strukturované rozhovory, při kterých zjišťovala postupy průmyslových firem podnikají-cích také v chemickém průmyslu, o informování obyvatel regionu v souvislosti s ochrannou životního prostředí a o jejich zkušenosti s řízením krizové komunikace. Další marketingový výzkum byl veden formou on-line dotazníku. Součástí dotazníku jsou nejen otevřené, uzavřené nebo polootevřené otázky, ale i metoda zjišťování postojů po-mocí škál, tzv. sémantický diferenciál. Dotazník byl zaměřen jak na osoby zaměstnané ve jmenované firmě, tak i mimo firmu a veškerá interpretace výsledků je rozdělena právě do těchto dvou hlavních skupin. Oblastí, která se v dotazníku sledovala, byla obeznámenost veřejnosti s kroky, jež firma podniká v ochraně životního prostředí a jakým způsobem minimalizuje škody z následků průmyslové výroby v okolí místa svého působení. V analytické části práce byly interpretovány výsledky jak dotazníkového šetření, tak i osobních rozhovorů. Provedenými výzkumy bylo zjištěno, jak partnerské společnosti ma-jí zavedenu směrnici či manuál krizové komunikace. Na základě dosažených poznatků byl v projektové části vypracován návrh manuálu krizové komunikace, který by měl při-pravit zodpovědné pracovníky společnosti na hlavní opatření při krizové nebo havarijní situaci. Hlavním výsledkem práce bylo rozpoznání mezer v externí komunikaci firmy v oblasti environmentálních faktorů, kdy mnozí obyvatelé regionu, jež nepatří mezi zaměstnance společnosti, pociťují nedostatek adekvátních informací související s ochranou životního prostředí v regionu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis examines the image of the industrial company Continental Barum Ltd. in Otrokovice in areas related to the environment and its protection. The Continental Barum company is a manufacturer of tires for cars, trucks, industrial and special vehicles and buses. The theoretical part defines terms associated with image, public opinion, and the CSR activities of companies as well as with the problems of crisis communication and deals with both how to prevent and face the crisis. The work also characterizes the terms in the field of marketing research and it also includes the methodology of work. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods are used in the thesis. Personal struc-tured interviews are carried out with a group of managers and ESH executives in order to find out the practices of industrial companies operating in the chemical industry and their ways of informing the population of the region about environmental protectionism and to learn more about their experience in managing crisis communication. Further market research is conducted through an online questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of open, closed, and semi-open questions and it also includes a survey of atti-tudes which uses scales semantic differential. The questionnaire is focused on two groups company employees and non-employees, and the interpretation of the research results is divided according to these two groups. The questionnaire deals with the follow-ing areas: how familiar the public is with the steps undertaken by the company to protect the environment and how to minimize damage caused by the effects of industrial produc-tion in the area of its operation. In the analytical part of the work, the results of the survey and personal interviews are interpreted. The research showed what kind of regulations or emergency communications manual partner companies have. Based on the findings, a proposal of crisis communica-tions manual is drafted in the project part of the thesis, which should prepare responsible employees to be ready to take action in crisis or emergency situations. The main finding of the research is the fact that there is a gap in external communication of the company in the field of environmental factors because a lot of inhabitants in the region who are not among the company's employees experience a lack of adequate information relating to environmental protectionism in the region.
