Isoflavones are polyphenolic compounds that belong to the group of phytoestrogens, which possess estrogen activity due to their resemblence to estradiol in mammals. Isoflavony jsou polyfenolické látky ze skupiny fytoestrogenů, které díky strukturní podobnosti s estradiolem vykazují biologickou aktivitu v těle savců. V jejich trávicím ústrojí jsou metabolizovány na equol, jež má ze sledovaných látek nejsignifikantnější účinky na organismus.
