Funkce úrokových sazeb stanovených centrální bankou stanovuje cenu finančních prostředků v ekonomice. Stanovení „správné ceny“ zdrojů v ekonomice má klíčový význam na vývoj hospodářství. Centrální banka řídí pomocí svých měnových nástrojů poptávku po penězích a touto regulací množství peněz v oběhu usiluje o dosažení svých cílů- hospodářské stability a nízké inflace.
