Abstract:

Psychometricky zaměřená dizertační práce se zabývá matematickými schopnostmi a možnostmi diagnostiky jejich úrovně. V úvodu definuje matematické schopnosti z hlediska psychometricky-faktorového přístupu a rovněž z hlediska kognitivní psychologie, a to se zaměřením zejména na zpracování informace, kulturní souvislosti a vývoj těchto schopností během dětství. Práce diferencuje jednotlivé složky schopností označovaných jako matematické a zasazuje je jak do kontextu jiných intelektových faktorů, tak je studuje i samostatně jako specifické kognitivní fenomény. Zároveň se zabývá matematickým nadáním i deficitem, reprezentovaným specifickými poruchami učení v matematice či dyskalkulií. Z tohoto teoretického přehledu těží tři dílčí studie. První z nich je upravenou verzí psychometrického manuálu Testu pro identifikaci nadaných žáků v matematice (TIM) a popisuje jeho vývoj a psychometrické ověření. Z toho důvodu obsahuje dizertační práce rovněž rozsáhlejší kapitolu popisující některé aspekty tzv. Raschova modelu, který byl použit jako hlavní model měření. Druhá studie je reanalýzou Diagnostiky struktury matematických schopností (DISMAS), určené pro děti s dyskalkulií. Tři dílčí analýzy se zaměřují na odhad reliability kompozitních skórů, faktorovou strukturu testu (její vývoj v čase a hierarchickou strukturu) a konečně i invarianci jednotlivých škál, konceptualizovanou prostřednictvím DIF (differential item functioning). Třetí studie pak ověřuje hypotézu o rozdílné faktorové struktuře matematických testů mezi šikovnějšími dětmi a méně šikovnými. Všechny výsledky jsou podrobně diskutovány.

Abstract:

This psychometrically oriented Ph.D. thesis focuses on mathematical abilities and the possibility of their assessment. The introduction defines mathematical abilities from the factor models perspective and from the perspective of cognitive psychology, with a particular attention on information processing, cultural context and childhood development. The thesis differentiates individual components of abilities which could be labeled as mathematical. It puts them both in the context of other intellectual factors, and also studies them separately as specific cognitive phenomena. It also deals with mathematical giftedness and deficit (such as developmental dyscalculia). This theoretical framework is the foundation for three subsequent studies. The first of these is a modified version of the psychometrical manual of the Test for Identifying Gifted Students in Mathematics (TIM) and it describes TIM’s development and validation. Therefore, the thesis also contains an extensive chapter which discusses some aspects of the Rasch model used as the main model of measurement during the development of TIM. The second study consists of a re-analysis of data from the DISMAS test, designed for children with dyscalculia. Three sub-analyses focus on estimating the reliability of composite scores, the factor structure of the test (specifically its changes over time and hierarchical structure) and finally on the scale-invariance using the differential item functioning framework (DIF). The third study examines the hypothesis of a different factor structure of mathematical tests between more and less skilled children. All the results are discussed in detail.
