Macroeconomic context of rising household indebtedness in Czech republic in 2000-2020

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se bude zabývat makroekonomickými souvislostmi růstu zadluženosti domácností v letech 2000–2020. Cílem práce je identifikace a analýza vlivu zadlužování českých domácností na vybrané makroekonomické agregátní veličiny. Zadluženost domácností je aktuální a velmi diskutovaným tématem, především její prudký růst po přelomu tisíciletí vyvolává obavy a znepokojení. Diskutuje se zda tento růst zadluženosti u českých domácností je jen určitý trend přibližování se životnímu standardu západních zemí nebo zda se domácnosti blíží k předlužení. Aktuálnost této problematiky dokládá mimo jiné i množství zpráv orgánů EU, OECD a ECB. Teoretická část se zaměří na charakteristiku základních pojmů, teorií spojených s trhem peněz, teorií spotřeby a definici fiskální a monetární politiky, vysvětluje úlohu peněz v hospodářských cyklech a na závěr definuje základní úvěrové produkty bank. Praktická část bude zkoumat vývoj růstu zadluženosti českých domácností, strukturu dluhu a hlavní příčiny rychlého růstu jejich zadlužování. Další část bude věnována zkoumání závislosti mezi makroekonomickými veličinami a růstem zadlužení domácností v České republice a nabídne mezinárodní srovnání s vybranými zeměmi EU. V závěru práce poskytne souhrnný přehled příčin a důsledků růstu zadluženosti domácností ve sledovaném období a zasadí získané informace do mezinárodního kontextu.

Abstract:

This thesis will deal with the macroeconomic context of the growth of household indebtedness in the years 2000–2020. The aim of this work is to identify and analyze the impact of Czech household indebtedness on selected macroeconomic aggregates. Household indebtedness is current and highly debated topic, especially its rapid growth after the turn of the millennium raises fears and concerns. It is discussed whether this growth in indebtedness of Czech households is only a certain trend of approaching the living standards of Western countries or whether households are approaching over-indebtedness. The topicality of this issue is evidenced, among other things, by a number of reports from the EU institutions, the OECD and the ECB. The theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of basic concepts and theories related to the money market, consumption theory, definition of fiscal and monetary policies, explains the role of money in economic cycles and finally defines the basic credit products of banks. The analytical part will examine the development of the growth of indebtedness of Czech households, the structure of debt and the main causes of the rapid growth of their indebtedness. The next part will be devoted to the study of the dependence between macroeconomic variables and the growth of household debt in the Czech Republic and will offer an international comparison with selected EU countries. At the end of the work will provide a summary of the causes and consequences of the growth of household indebtedness in the period under review and place the information obtained in the international context.
