COBIT 2019 and ITIL V4: distinct or approaching?

Abstract:

Cílem práce je podrobný popis rámců ITIL a COBIT a s nimi souvisejících informací. Diplomová práce je vypracována tak, aby bylo možné demonstrovat, zda se oba rámce od sebe vzdalují, anebo naopak k sobě přibližují, a zároveň pochopit, jaké jsou jejich vzájemné výhody.Práce uvádí do historie a významu rámců a přináší jejich popisy. Zpracování diplomové práce proběhlo metodou výběrové rešerše (selective literature review). Snaží se odvíjet a pozvolna uvést čtenáře do jednotlivých částí tématu, aby se čtenáři následně podařilo navázat na propojení mezi rámci. Práce vychází ze syntézy předešlých a aktuálních verzí rámců COBIT a ITIL a z jejich komparace. Jsou porovnávány rozdíly a brán ohled na jejich vzájemnou souvislost. Snahou je dojít k závěru, tedy za podmínky, že se rámce přibližují, jak se jejich komponenty podobají. Praktická část spočívá v rozboru soudržnosti pomocí mapovacích tabulek rámců. Jsou identifikovány vztahy mezi prvky rámců, stejně i jejich neshody.Cílem jednotlivých kapitol ani celé diplomové práce není doporučovat lepší praktiku, ani se obecně vyhrazovat, zdali je nějaká lepší. Stejně tak není snahou ovlivňovat názor čtenáře, spíše uvést do tématu a fakt. Není úmyslem doporučovat realizaci specifického rámce, jelikož toto rozhodnutí je nezávislou záležitostí každé firmy s přihlédnutím k její zralosti, velikosti, strategickým a obchodním představám, záměrům procesů podniku, stejně tak i k dalším faktorům, které ovlivňují společnost. Bereme na vědomí, že diplomová práce je omezená určitým druhem rámců, zatímco existují také další známé a užitečné rámce a praktiky, které mají šanci lépe vyhovovat v určitých oblastech organizace.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to describe ITIL and COBIT frameworks logically in order to introduce all relevant information to the reader. The intention is to allude whether the frameworks recede or get closer over time and whether there are any reciprocal benefits.I am using selective literature review methodology, as well as synthesis between two frameworks. The progress of the thesis content is co-dependent and built on gradual analysis. In order for the frameworks to cohere, I familiarize the reader with the background history and content, further walk the reader through the frameworks via comparisons. I am comparing the differences and similarities en masse. Furthermore, it helps to conclude whether COBIT and ITIL come together and what specific components resemble. Part of the practical use of my knowledge consists of my ability to identify and analyze cohesiveness, for that I am using independent mapping tables as the tools. The tables help to identify and structure the interrelationships. There is no intent to advise a better framework, not either to identify whether any of the framework is better at all. I am not trying to incline the reader’s opinion, rather to offer an understanding and facts, as well as other opinions of a subject matter experts (SMEs). I have no interest in promoting specific framework’s implementation, since the choice and decision must be made by a company with regard to company’s maturity level, size, strategic objectives and goals, process principles, as well as further factors influencing the company’s operations. I am aware and acknowledge that the thesis covers specific frameworks; whereas, there are other not less famous or even more relevant frameworks depending on the company’s field and the process scope.
