Analysis of the causes of non-participation of pupils in physical education classes (primary and secondary school pupils)

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá důvody neúčasti žáků na hodinách tělesné výchovy (žáků základních a středních škol). Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce bylo zjistit důvody neúčasti žáků na hodinách tělesné výchovy základních a středních škol, stanovit rozdíly v postojích žáků na základních a středních školách. Zjistit jejich celkovou motivaci k pohybové aktivitě, názor na školní tělesnou výchovu, její obsah a stanovit důvody inaktivity žáků, se kterými se nejčastěji učitelé tělesné výchovy setkávají. Jedná se o online výzkum, kdy sběr dat byl realizován prostřednictvím standardizovaného (MPAM-R) a nestandardizovaného dotazníku. Výsledky poukázaly, že nejčastějším důvodem, proč se žáci neúčastní hodin TV, byla problematika ranních hodin TV, nezajímavost hodin a učení se do jiného předmětu. Míra neúčasti se zvyšuje s narůstajícím věkem a ročníkem, přičemž chlapci vykazují menší míru neúčasti než dívky. Analýza motivů k PA ukazuje, že u žáků převládal motiv zdraví/zdatnost (4,80 ? 1,65), dále výzva (4,38 ? 1,68), na třetím místě figuroval vzhled (4,29 ? 1,81), dále zájem/zážitek (4,25 ? 1,69) a jako poslední byl motiv sociální (3,83 ? 1,51). Další explorativní analýzy ukázaly, že děti, u kterých převládal motiv výzvy, byla nižší míra zameškaných hodin a u dětí, které se ve volném čase více zabývají sportem, tak mají větší míru motivace k pohybovým aktivitám než děti, které se sportům ve volném čase tolik nevěnují. Žáci uváděli, že čím byla obsahová náplň TV pro ně zajímavější, tím více se hodin přímo účastnili. Dále pedagogové v dotazníku uváděli, že nejčastějšími důvody k neúčasti jsou zdravotní indispozice ze strany žáků a nenošení cvičebního úboru, přičemž důvody uvedené učiteli se liší od důvodů uváděnými žáky.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with reasons for non-participation in physical education. The main aim of this work is to determine the differences between the attitudes of pupils in primary and secondary schools. Concretely, the aims were to find out about the general motivation for physical activity of the pupils, their attitudes towards physical education, its content and to define the most common reasons for the inactivity of pupils in physical education. These outcomes were evaluated using both standardized (MPAM-R) and non-standardized questionnaires. This online research showed that the most common reason why pupils do not participate in TV lessons was the issue of morning TV lessons or studying for another subject. Students´ non-participation increased with age and grade, whereas boys reported lower non-participation rates than girls. The analysis of motives for PA shows that the following motives prevailed among pupils: the health and fitness motive (4.80 ? 1.65), followed by competence (4.38 ? 1.68), appearance figured in third place (4.29 ? 1.81), then interest or experience (4.25 ? 1.69). The last motive was social (3.83 ? 1.51). A follow-up exploratory analysis showed that children whose motive was competence had a lower rate of missed hours. In addition, children who were more involved in sports in their free time, had higher motivation for physical activities than children who did not do any sport. The pupils also stated that the more interesting the TV content was for pupils, the higher was the participation in physical education at school. Furthermore, teachers stated that they most often encounter health indispositions of pupils and failing to bring exercise clothes as reasons for non-participation. All in all, the reasons for non-participation stated by the teachers differed from those reported by the pupils.
