The Icelandic parliamentary elections 2013 and their importance for party system competition

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá islandskými parlamentními volbami konanými v dubnu 2013 s cílem zhodnotit dopady výsledků voleb na podobu stranicko-politického systému. Na úvod seznamuje čtenáře s politickým a volebním systémem. Dále s vývojem stranického systému od roku 1999, což je důležité pro pochopení kontextu. Poté se věnuje samostatnému průběhu parlamentních voleb. Zaobírá se nejen výsledky celostátními, ale i rozvrstvením hlasů ve volebních obvodech. V závěru ukazuje novou islandskou vládu a zaobírá se tím, jaké změny tyto nové parlamentní volby přinesly.

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis is to explain the influence of Iceland parliament elections in April 2013 on the party-political system in general. Trying to describe and explain the political and electoral system in the beginning this work then elaborates on the evolution of the party-political system from 1999 which is very important to fully understand the context. Moving forward to describe the parliament election process in whole it then portraits the results across the country as well as the split of votes in each constituency. At the end my thesis outlines the structure of new Icelandic government and the changes these new parliament elections brought to the country.
