Changes in Media Representation of Family in the Czech Soap Operas: A case study "Nemocnice na kraji města"

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce zkoumá proměny mediální reprezentace rodiny v českém seriálu Nemocnice na kraji města. Analyzuje třináct dílů první sérii natočené roku 1977 a třináct dílů prozatím poslední, čtvrté, série z roku 2008. Prostřednictvím metod obsahové analýzy a následného kvalitativního interpretativního čtení se snaží prozkoumat změny, ke kterým došlo v mediální reprezentaci rodiny v analyzovaném seriálu v rozpětí třiceti let. V kvantitativní části zkoumá zejména vývoj ve vyobrazování dominantní rodinné konfigurace (její typ, velikost, funkci), hodnotu narozeného dítěte, zobrazování ženy, muže a kontexty (rodinná, profesní, veřejná sféra), jejichž prostřednictvím jsou komunikováni. V kvalitativní části se pokoušení zasadit kvantitativní výsledky do širšího diskurzu a poukázat na principy, jichž seriál využívá ke konstrukci mediálního obrazu rodiny a k jeho legitimizaci. V neposlední řadě se tato bakalářská práce zaměřuje na způsob, jakým seriál artikuluje problematiku krize rodiny a jaké principy využívá k mytologizaci a ideologizaci rodinných konfigurací.

Abstract:

The presented thesis investigates changes in media representation of family in the Czech soap opera Nemocnice na kraji města. It analyses thirteen episodes of the first season made in 1977 and thirteen episodes of the meanwhile latest season from year 2008. Through the use of methods of content analysis and of following qualitative interpretative reading the thesis tries to investigate the changes of media representation of family in the analysed soap opera in age-range of thirty years. In the quantitative part the thesis analyses the changes in displaying dominant family configuration (its type, size, function), values of a child borne, the representation of woman, man and the contexts (family, profession, public sphere) through which they are communicated. In the qualitative part the thesis tries to put the quantitative results into the wider discourse and it tries to show the principles of media represenation of family and its legitimization. The thesis also deals with the articulation of family crisis and mythologization and ideologization of family configurations.
