Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá časopisem Lumír a ohlasy anglofonních literatur v něm mezi lety 1895 a 1914. Časopis Lumír byl jedním z nejvýznamnějších časopisů působících na české literární scéně v dané době. Lumír publikoval a recenzoval mnoho světových autorů. Tato práce se zaměřuje na anglofonní autory a zkoumá roli anglofonních literatur a kultury v tomto časopise. Práce vychází z výzkumu časopisu Lumír, při kterém byla z Lumíru shromažďována data týkající se anglofonních literatur a kultury. Práce popisuje, jak fungovala česká literární scéna na přelomu 19. a 20. století. Dále se zabývá časopisem Lumír a jeho úlohou a postavením v české kultuře. Kromě toho charakterizuje český literární překlad dané doby. Cílem této práce je objasnit roli a pozici anglofonních literatur v časopise Lumír v dané době. Práce zkoumá, kteří anglofonní autoři v časopise Lumír vycházeli – zda byli publikováni současní autoři a zda publikovaní autoři byli obecně známí, či naopak. Tyto skutečnosti jsou zkoumány a posléze vysvětleny. Práce se dále zabývá otázkou, kdo nejvíc ovlivňoval obsah časopisu – zda to byl vydavatel, překladatelé, nebo editoři a recenzenti. Každá z těchto kategorií je v práci popsána a je zde vysvětlena role nejdůležitějších autorů a dalších postav působících v jednotlivých odvětvích. Práce se kromě toho zaměřuje na roli modernismu v časopise Lumír mezi lety 1895 a 1914.

Abstract:

This thesis is devoted to a Czech journal Lumír and the reflections of Anglophone literatures in it between the years 1895 and 1914. The journal Lumír was one of the crucial magazines operating on the Czech literary scene at that time. It published and reviewed many foreign authors. The thesis focuses on Anglophone authors and it analyses the role of Anglophone literature and culture in the journal. The thesis is based on an analysis of the journal during which the data related to Anglophone literatures and culture were extracted from Lumír. The thesis explains how the Czech literary scene functioned during the period. It also describes the journal Lumír and its position on the Czech literary scene. In addition, it deals with Czech literary translation during the period. The goal of the thesis is to clarify the role and position of Anglophone literatures in the journal between 1895 and 1914. It examines which authors were published in Lumír at the time concerned; whether the authors tended to be contemporary or not; and whether they tended to be generally popular. It explains these phenomena and provides reasons for them. The thesis also analyses who affected the content of Lumír most; whether it was the publisher, the translators or the editors and reviewers. It examines each of these categories and explains the role of the most important figures in each one of them. The thesis also concentrates on the role of modernism in Lumír during the period 1895 – 1914.
