Probability classification of solar activity phenomena in full-disc observations of the Sun

Abstract:

Současné metody umožňují nepřetržitě pozorovat Slunce a pořizovat velká množství snímků sluneční chromosféry. Takové množství snímků je pro nás nemožné vyhodnocovat manuálně, a proto potřebujeme metody, které nám umožní zpracovat snímky Slunce automaticky. Srozvojem počítačů a zrychlením výpočetního času můžeme použít metody digitálního zpracování obrazu, především metody segmentace obrazu. S~prostředky segmentace obrazu můžeme vytvořit algoritmus pro segmentace celodiskových snímků sluneční chromosféry. Tato práce je rozdělena do čtyř hlavních částí. V~první části popisuji objekty v~sluneční chromosféře, jejichž segmentací se zabývám. V~další části diskutuji nejběžnější metody digitálního zpracování obrazu, následně popisuji metody pro rozpoznání objektů na Slunci a algoritmus samotný a v~poslední části se věnuji klasifikaci objektů. Navržený algoritmus je schopen zpracovávat celodiskové snímky z různých observatoří a rozlišit žádané objekty od pozadí. Následná klasifikace rozděluje objekty s velkou přesností do následujících tříd: sluneční skvrny, filamenty a pláže. Pro sluneční erupce klasifikace není tak úspěšná.

Abstract:

Current techniques allow continuous observation of the Sun and taking a huge amount of images of the solar chromosphere. It is impossible to manually evaluate all solar images and there is urgent need for methods which permit automatic processing of solar images. With improvement of computers and acceleration of calculation time we can use methods of digital image processing, especially methods of image segmentation. We can create an algorithm for segmentation of full-disc images of the solar chromosphere by means of image segmentation. This work is divided into four main parts. In the first part, I describe the observed features in the solar chromosphere whose segmentation I deal with. In the next part, the most common methods of image segmentation are discussed, then I describe methods of solar features recognition and the algorithm itself and in the last section, I deal with classification of solar features. The proposed algorithm is able to process full disc images from various observatories and can distinguish solar features from the background. Then solar features are classificated with high precision into the following classes: sunspots, filaments and plages. In case of solar flares classification wasn't as successful.
