The Influence of Discrimination on the Identity of Roma Children in the Context of Social Work Services

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce pojednává o identitě romského dítěte a vlivu diskriminace, který může budování romské identity ovlivnit. V teoretické části se zabývám identitou romského dítěte, jejím utvářením a dostávám se k popírání romské identity, které může být způsobováno vztahem mezi romskou a neromskou populací, který je plný nedůvěry, nepochopení a projevů různých forem diskriminace. Vliv této diskriminace se může odrazit na budování identity romského dítěte, na utváření postoje k vlastní identitě. Jelikož toto téma přináším z pozice sociálního pracovníka v nízkoprahovém zařízení pro děti a mládež, seznamuji čtenáře s touto sociální službou poskytující bezpečné prostory k řešení nepříznivé sociální situace, která se může dotýkat vnímání své vlastní identity či řešení konfliktních společenských situací. Ve výzkumné části se snažím porozumět, jak romské děti v NZDM vnímají svou identitu a případnou diskriminaci. S ohledem na cíl mého výzkumu jsem zvolila kvalitativní výzkumnou strategii a za pomocí polostrukturovaného rozhovoru jsem získala potřebná data, která byla zpracována a vyhodnocena a byly předloženy výzkumné závěry.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the identity of the Roma child and the impact of discrimination that may affect the building of Roma identity. The theoretical part deals with the identity of a Roma child getting its formation and the denial of Romani identity, which may be due to the relationship between the Roma and non-Roma population, which is full of mistrust, misunderstanding and symptoms of various forms of discrimination. The impact of this discrimination may affect the identity building of a Roma child in shaping attitudes towards their own identity. Because I bring this topic from a position of social worker in a low-threshold facility for children and youth, acquaints readers with the social service of providing safe spaces to solve difficult social situation that may affect the perception of their own identity and resolving conflicting social situations. In the research part I try to understand how Roma children in NZDM perceive their identity and potential discrimination. With regard to the goal of my research I chose qualitative research strategy and semi-structured interview, I got the necessary data that has been processed and evaluated and have been presented research findings.
