Breast self-examination in women after menopause

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou samovyšetření prsu u žen po klimakteriu. Teoretická část diplomové práce uvádí přehled informací o anatomii, fyziologii prsu a prsní žlázy, o epidemiologii onemocnění a rizikových faktorech, které mohou vést ke vzniku rakoviny prsu. Dále popisuje typy nádorů a jejich následnou léčbu. V teoretické části je i popsána problematika mamografického screeningu v České republice a problematika klimakteria u žen. Nezbytná je kapitola zabývající se samovyšetřením prsu, popisující instruktáž postupu samovyšetření prsu a motivace pro pravidelné samovyšetření u žen po klimakteriu. Empirická část seznamuje se skutečností, zda ženy po klimakteriu provádějí samovyšetření prsu a v jakých intervalech. Popisuje informovanost žen o postupu samovyšetření prsu. Dále zda ženy pravidelně navštěvují gynekologa a mamografické vyšetření prsu. Nedílnou součástí diplomové práce je analýza a interpretace výsledků získaných během průzkumného šetření pomocí anonymního dotazníku u vybrané skupiny žen.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the issue of the breast self-examination after menopause. The theoretical part of this work offers an overview of the available information on the anatomy, the physiology of breast and breast gland, and on the epidemiology of the disease and the risk factors that may lead to the development of breast cancer. It equally describes various types of tumours and their subsequent treatment. The theoretical part also describes the issue of the breast cancer screening in the Czech Republic and the issue of women’s menopause. An essential chapter of this section is dealing with the breast self-examination and describes the instructions on the procedure of the breast self-examination and motivating factors for the regular self-examination for women after menopause. The empirical part discusses whether the women after menopause perform self-examination and in what intervals. It also describes the awareness of women about the procedure of the breast self-examination. Next, it speaks about whether women regularly visit gynaecologists and attend breast cancer screening. A crucial part of the thesis is the analysis and interpretation of the results gained during the research survey that used anonymous questionnaires spread among a given category of women.
