Abstract:

Diplomová práce “The Spanish Contribution to the American Revolutionary War: Bernardo de Gálvez and the Spanish Conquest of West Florida” se zaměřuje na přínos a míru, s jakou španělské impérium, zejména vlivná rodina De Gálvez, ovlivnilo vítězství Spojených.států. Tato skutečnost představuje důležitou součást historie americké revoluce, která nebyla doposud studována stejnou měrou ve srovnání s francouzským vlivem v Americké válce za nezávislost. Stěžejní část práce je zaměřena na samotnou rodinu De Gálvez. Tato část diplomové práce popisuje hlavní úspěchy rodiny De Gálvez v souvislosti s revoluční děním, především tažením na golfové pobřeží pod vedením Bernarda de Gálveze (1746–1786). Dále je diskutováno historické pozadí zapojení Španělského impéria do konfliktu a hlavní jednání, která otevřela cestu ke spolupráci s kontinentální armádou. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do 16 kapitol včetně úvodu a závěru. Z hlediska metodologie jsou využívány primární i sekundární zdroje, konkrétně je analyzována korespondence mezi americkými a španělskými diplomaty a armádními vůdci

Abstract:

The diploma thesis Spanish Contribution to the American Revolutionary War: Bernardo de Gálvez and the Spanish Conquest of West Florida focuses on the contribution and degree to which the Spanish Empire, particularly the powerful family De Gálvez influenced the victory of the United States, as it represents an important part of the history of the American Revolution, which has not been studied to the same depth in comparison to the French influence in the war. The core section of the thesis is focused on the family of De Gálvez itself, marking their main accomplishments regarding the revolutionary cause, mainly the Golf Coast Campaign led by Bernardo de Gálvez (1746-1786). Furthermore, the historical background for the involvement of the Spanish Empire in the conflict is discussed, as well as the main negotiations that paved the way to the cooperation with Continental Army. The diploma thesis is divided into 16 chapters including the introduction and conclusion. In terms of methodology, both primary sources and secondary sources are utilized, namely, correspondence between the American and Spanish diplomats is analyzed.
